We look at the hidden force guiding so many NBA plays. Not merely the impact of coaching in practice, before the game and during timeouts, but live-ball coaching, play calling, and the powerful effect of communicating during the game from the sidelines.

  1. I really wish the premium services like League Pass gave an on-court mic option without commentary. I think it'd be super interesting for a deeper understanding of the game as it unfolds. Also alternate camera angles. So much room for improvement and flexibility if streaming technology was better embraced.

  2. Defensive coaching also why teams almost always choose to have their defense be in front of the bench second half for end of game situations rather than first half.

  3. It'd be nice to watch a whole game with zero commentary, and just listen to what the players and coaches are saying. Or at least have commentators that are former players and coaches who actually care about tactics and not just what the superstars are doing.

  4. this is what a goalkeepr dose in soccer, u are CONSTANTLY talking or yelling, command the defense and run the counter offensive with who u pass thew ball too after a save. they get no credit but its the hardens position, everything else failed now u gota save it.

  5. This is why I subscribed to this channel
Mazzula COTY, but hats off to all the coaches out there

  6. Y'all have been glazing the Celtics an awful lot lately (which is wildly out of character to be clear) and I like it! Go C's!

  7. I think this is why more bench/rotational players transition into good coaches rather than superstars. You stay on the sidelines more and watch the whole board instead of the ball.

  8. I love to ask people what makes a good coach 9/10 they don’t know then I ask why do you always call for them to be fired when you don’t even know what they are doing

  9. Show this to any old head that says today's basketball is just chucking 3s. The game is so much more beautiful today!

  10. I regularly watch games but how I wish I have this same comprehension when watching. It would make me more addicted to the game.

  11. But hang on a minute, Shaq says coaching doesn't matter at all in the modern NBA??? I'm so confused now, because he has to be right, right? As he won 4 championships…… I'm so lost…….

  12. Great video! I love the "hidden" parts of the game… Another invisible hand that I wish didn't impact the game as much as it does… The referees.

  13. This is a big reason why I prefer listening to games with headphones if I'm alone. I also like hearing the full, wide stereo field, and how nicely it adjusts when the camera angles change. You can often hear each coach barking out their instructions in separate ears. My favorite productions accentuate the on-court/bench sounds, with contact mics at the rims.

  14. And professional couch slouchers swear that they can do better than basically all head coaches. Especially as a non-bandwagon warriors fan, I feel like my brain is getting lobotimized every time I see another bandwagon say they can do better than Steve Kerr

  15. Stuff like this is why I don't get when people are saying certain players don't take control of games and stuff like that. The coach is right there, if you try "taking over" and it's not in the play, you're getting benched. Why would we just assume it's about wanting it enough when it's very obviously a team sport?

  16. Just from the Suns game😮.id like to add POR to our littl round robin.i think they knockout the C's in 7

  17. "The game is too simple today; everyone does the same thing." "No one plays defense anymore." "They just don't want it the same way they used to." – clear signs someone doesnt know anything about basketball…. and unfortunately the main talking points on the ESPN. the Game is more complex and higher level than its ever been.

  18. This makes basketball more interesting. It's not just who's bigger or stronger. It's also a battle of strategies. I will now pay more attention to the sidelines during games. I only hear the coaches shouting "ball" during the transitions.
