Billy Donovan rumors per ESPN NBA Insider Shams Charania:
“The Bulls made clear that the organization wanted Donovan back after making sweeping changes to their front office, but Donovan held an option in his contract for next season and elected to step down after extensive meetings with team ownership in the last week, sources said. Donovan determined he wanted to give the team a clean break, provide the ability for the organization to undergo its front office search and allow the new top basketball executive to make the next coaching hire.”

“If I interview someone and they’re not sold on Billy, they’re not sold on a Hall of Fame coach; they’re not sold on a person who’s won championships in college, who’s gone deep in the playoffs with Oklahoma City. If Billy wants to be our coach and someone’s not interested in that, then they’re probably not the right candidate for us.”

    Billy wasn’t the problem. He was a good coach. But I agree this is good for everyone considering the timeline that we are on.

    Billy wasn’t THE problem but he was part of it! Question didn’t he confer with the front office. Wasn’t he apart of the conversations. Like mediocre for a franchise with 6 championships is kinda mid! Which is why I want the franchise sold! Get those old a-hole billionaire out of Chicago!!!!

    U guys are blind not good coach. The team would come out not ready to play. After halftime Billy would call a timeout a minute into the second half. That’s unexceptable. He doesn’t develop players and nor gives player minutes that has shown they should get more. I could go on and on

    Embarrassing that the Bulls publicly gave him as much power as they did by claiming to want to hire a front office around keeping him and then doubly embarrassing for him to turn them down. Why would you make a statement like that at all if you weren't certain he wanted to stay? And then to have him point out the bad process in a very cordial refusal is another layer of embarrassing! Even if this is all for the best, the way we got here is just astoundingly incompetent.

    Billy wasnt our main problem, but he was responsible for our poor rotations, in game adjustments and evaluating and developing talent, he was an average coach and it irritates me that people think he was absolved of all blame

    Billy wasn’t a good coach. Never coached up a guy to be better, couldn’t win. Never played young guys… he was holding us back too

    The last team that Billy walked away from because he did not want to be a part of a rebuild, they (OKC) did ok for themselves. So hopefully history repeats itself.

    Billy was terrible. i don't care what no one says. He developed no one, and i hated how he barely ever played rookies. This was the best move for the Bulls, including dropping AK and his crew

    Play in two years ago when Drummond was dominating in the final 1/4 but then decided to take him off, along with Ayo and then what happened we sunk and lost, there are so many examples of that as he always had his favourites and never gave anyone a chance. Yet you say it wasn’t a coaching problem, he’s one of the worst coach’s in the league, doesn’t develop doesn’t keep players on who are performing and quite frankly has done nothing in the NBA, let him go back to college where he belongs.
