The Ringer on the Mavericks selecting Mikel Brown Jr. in their latest NBA Mock Draft:
“Once the coveted guys with upside are off the board, the Mavs should have a chance to take aim at one of their issues in Cooper Flagg’s debut season and one of their most important tasks as they prepare for the next era without Kyrie Irving. Obviously, the Mavs would much rather be picking a few spots earlier—Wagler would be a great fit—but Brown is an electric ball handler in open space who can also just as easily rocket off of pin-downs, staggers, and flare screens as a shooter. His strange up-and-down year at Louisville has had a suppressing effect on his value. Pairing Brown with a blossoming creator like Flagg could be an ideal developmental setup for him to control how much responsibility he’s given as he polishes the finer details.”

Yes! If he’s available at 8 take him unless somebody else falls.
Okorie could be better than Brown.
His tape is great and I think he could be the best player on the board if he last till 30.
His shooting numbers aren’t great
(47/35/83) but he was Stanford’s entire offense some games and his other numbers (49/58 steal to turnover ratio,
6 made free throws per game, spectacular 1.43 points per shot) make him a steal late. He could start next to Brown and create a blisteringly fast backcourt. He played just one season at Stanford and it will be 2-3 years before either player is potentially GREAT so that means we’d have to make a concerted effort to retrieve our picks in the next two years, which we could easily do by trading Kyrie, PJ, Gafford, Naji and everyone else approaching or exceeding 30 yrs old.
A few years of suffering could pay off like it’s going to for Utah I believe.
A starting five that includes Flagg, Brown, Okorie, Lively and another young stud we could draft in 2027 could complete the rebuild.
Just greasing the slides for Luka’s eventual return in 2028 lol.
If they took Braden Smith at 30 I’d personally burn the building down.
The last thing we need is a short, skinny white guy at 30.

There will be far better options at both 30 and 48.
JT Toppin at 48 would be my choice after his injury dropped him down.
At 30 you got to pray Swain or Veesaar are there. A dozen guys before Smith.
I just remember last time mavs picked 10th and how they said the two guys that went 8th and 9th was gonna be excellent players.
But they weren’t. It’s a crap shoot after the top picks.
