NBA Drops 3-2-1 Draft BOMB! | Hornets future CHANGES | New odds EXPLAINED

Adam Silver isn’t just talking about fixing the NBA’s tanking problem—he’s putting dramatic reforms on the table, and teams like the Charlotte Hornets could feel the effects for years to come. On today’s episode, Walker Mehl and Doug Branson break down the brand-new 3-2-1 lottery proposal: what it is, why it matters, and how it could turn draft strategy upside down. With flattened odds, a softened relegation zone, and new restrictions on back-to-back No. 1 picks, the NBA is changing the rules of the game—and teams that have been stockpiling future picks, like Charlotte with selections from Miami and Dallas, face unpredictable new risks and opportunities.

Find out how the new lottery setup could impact the value of the Hornets’ future assets and what it means for decisions about trading or keeping those picks. Doug Branson and Walker Mehl hash out whether these reforms actually serve small-market teams and ponder worst-case scenarios if stars go down to injury under the new system. Plus, which changes do they approve of, and where might unintended consequences pop up? Get a few wild and creative proposals for fixing tanking once and for all, then stick around for some candid playoff takes: does Orlando’s success soften the Hornets’ play-in defeat, and which first-round matchups have the most at stake for Charlotte’s rivals? Insightful, opinionated, and sharp—if you want the real Hornets conversation, this episode is a must-listen.

  1. Sports betting is a far worse issue than tanking, and the only reason this "tanking issue" is being addressed is gambling. It's bad enough one owners is a casino magnate (Adelson) and one player is directly involved with Kalshi (Giannis).

  2. NBA is so bad at this, they created the situation that lead to the tanking in the first place. They continue to take away ways for the worst teams to get better. First they took away the ability to build a winner through free agency and now they're making it harder for the worst teams to build through the draft. How about get rid of the stupid lottery in the first place. The worst team gets the top pick and down through the worst records. They won't do it, bc the lotto helps them get Flagg to Dallas, Shaq to Orlando, Bron to Cleveland, Wemby to SA, Robinson to SA, Duncan to SA etc…

  3. Rigged is rigged whether you have one ball or fifty the best players are gona go where the nba sees fit period. The rest is just lip service and political gymnastics. I call bs on the whole league there’s no way in hell the hornets haven’t gotten a number one pick in recent history. Bottom line small market teams get the shaft regardless so it is wat it is. So appreciate the so called stars you do have all things considered.

  4. If you think about it this will actually help with parody in the nba. For example from 2012-2025 the hornets have been stuck in mediocrity because we were too bad to be competitive but too good to secure a top 3 seeded pick. Now that mediocre teams get a higher chance at the top 3 the mediocre teams have an avenue to get better through the draft. This also helps the shitty teams because it will force the shitty teams to become mediocre and than they’ll have a chance to be competitive through the draft.

  5. 24:00 Your first option is dead stupid. A horribly run organization that makes more money by not trying to win but continues to sell tickets and jerseys because of all the young talent they procure and then refuse to pay a second contract to…

That is not a good idea.

  6. The League’s just trying to distract us from the blatant lottery fixing every year. Look again at the odds of Dallas, SA, and Philly going 1-2-3 in 2025. They’ll throw the lottery net wider so it looks legit when league favorites like Golden State and Dallas hit it big.
