Would you want the Nets to target Peyton Watson or Ayo Dosunmu in free agency? If so, what contracts would you be comfortable offering them? What other free agents do you have your eye on?
Peyton Watson is exactly the type of player Nets should go after in restricted free agency. Athletic 6’8 23 year old wing who showed a lot of creation upside almost being able to score at will at the rim, showed to be a good shooter all season even during the stretch Jokic went down, and he’s a tough defender who can provide good weak side rim protection. All things Brooklyn needs and he could just be scratching the surface with how young he is and this being his breakout year. We can incentivize him to come to Brooklyn by offering him a bigger role compared to what he would have on the Lakers, Nuggets, etc and his best friend being MPJ certainly helps. A scoring trio of our 2026 pick, Watson, and MPJ next year would be very exciting
Target both… depending on who we draft…
I like the idea of Payton, but I don't see the Nuggets not moving on from Cam to make space to resign Payton. Cam still has value, expiring, and hasn't been great with Denver. It just makes too much sense right now.
No.. go for Sochan, Eason.. Duren!! Win on the margins.. don’t chase a player the moment after they have the game of their life
First, sign Minott to a front-loaded declining contract, see who we draft – if it’s a big or long wing (Dybantsa, Boozer, Wilson, etc) then offer Dosunmu a front loaded, declining 4-year deal. Add young talent, front loading the deal
make it harder for Minnesota to make similar offer, but declining will help maximize cap space in 2027 when MPJ deal expires and 2028 when Claxton and Mann’s deals expire.
Neither they don't move the needle or do they make the team any more competitive than they're presently constructed
I actually disagree with Slater here about making some big signing like this a to m if the fee agent market stinks you shouldn’t over pay guys that’s when you get into trouble. Watson intrigues me but not at 125 million more like 50 million and I see him as an upgrade on Noah Clowney.
There is one guy I’d love to take from the Knicks and that’s Mitch Robinson. Dude has injury stuff but is a fantastic defensive center with size something they don’t get from Claxton. MPJ might actually benefit from the market being so thin because if the chose is extending MPJ or goving Watson 125 million I’d rather just extend MPJ.
