Fenerbahce took a commanding 2-0 lead in its best-of-five playoff series against Zalgiris, with a carbon-copy win Game 2 which put the EuroLeague champs on the verge of reaching this season’s Final Four. The Turkish giant dominated from start to finish as veteran Nicolo Melli again turned back the clock to produce a vintage individual performance garnished by 17 points and 4 boards.
Nando De Colo, himself in the latter stages of a glittering career, scored 16 as he shot 4-of-5 from deep while Tarik Biberovic sank 15. Mikael Jantunen added 13 and Wade Baldwin chipped in with 11 to underline a smooth team effort from the hosts.
Fenerbahce thoroughly dominated the boards, 37-24, grabbing a whopping 17 offensive rebounds and shot 13 of 27 from downtown while Zalgiris mustered a dreadful 5 of 23 as the visitors struggled against the home team’s ferocious defense.
Moses Wright paced Zalgiris on 16 points, scoring 9 in the first quarter, while Sylvain Francisco netted 11 but endured another torrid night as he was repeatedly swarmed by his markers and got forced to take a barrage of tough shots from all over.
