Countdown to the Lottery, and finding a Ja Morant trade

Countdown to the Lottery, and finding a Ja Morant trade

The Grizzlies will find out their lottery luck on Sunday, and it is one of many variables that will guide the direction of the off-season.

This episode goes over those variables, including one of the biggest- finding a trade partner to turn the page on the Ja Morant era.

In addition to trying to find realistic (underwhelming) trades for Ja, this episode goes over all the lottery odds, potential uses for the Jaren Jackson Jr traded player exception, and the veterans most likely not to be on the team next season.

  1. Giannis/Ja kind of makes sense. I think you could probably talk yourself into maybe 13 teams walking a point guard right now, so definitely double of what it was during the trade deadline, but I think Milwaukee has the only super real interest. I think Miami wants Ja, but I think they only want Ja for the minimum has some way to attract Giannis there in Free Agency, etc. Giannis does genuinely seem to want to play with Ja, whether thats the allstar game pick, or him mentioning memphis, or Austin rivers mentioning it, etc etc. The Taylor Jenkins hiring that… Bobby Portis alluded to before, etc etc. I do think they'd probably find a way to keep Portis on that bucks team, so I am not sure exactly who would be in that trade, but I imagine at the time, Milwaukee didn't want to give up too much for Ja, etc. That is probably different now. — ok so this is my before the episode prediction, lets see how it goes– it went pretty well :p But yea, Jenkins, Giannis mentioning a Memphis trade, Austin Rivers mentioning Ja going to Milwaukee, the allstar game pick from Giannis for Ja, i believe that was the first pick, them needing a point guard, also some of the "what if Ja and JJJ did pick and roll" I imagine Ja can at least run that with Giannis even if the spacing is sus. I wonder if we could train our trade exception with Ja and just take back Rollins. All of that being said, I am still on the "i'd rather see Ja stay with the team, and Kleiman just figure it out" Ja is still only twenty six. — Of those other players, if you had some sort of "pick ten exercise" Cam, Small, Cedric, Wells, GG, Santi, Omax, Edey, Hendricks and Ja, if not Ja then Pipp. I imagine some players will just need to be traded because they are older, KCP, others have umm legal problems…, and some might have too much current value versus long term value to keep, Ty. I imagine Gibson is waived and Mashack and Clayton still have a lot to prove. As far as the draft goes, I imagine the Houston PG/C and Michigan's PF/C dude seem the most appealing for where are picks are located, I think we might need to trade up for Fleming though.

  2. Dont trade Ja aint equilvalent in the league. Trade all those pgs except clayton. Turn the page only if he wants to leave. those trades u were suggesting tho were horrible 😆 aint no way

  3. Considering where the franchise is now vs. 4/5 seasons ago is almost depressing. So many squandered picks, assets, and missed opportunities to build a contender.
