How to save your NBA career in 2 months

Scoot Henderson had a VERY slow start to his NBA career in his first two years. But when it came time for a new contract extension, he turned it around all of a sudden…finally showing why he was such a hyped up prospect to begin with. Is it sustainable though? Let’s take a look.

  1. If he doesn’t get traded I sure hope blazers can lock him in to a cheap contract, if he busts out then hells yeah but if he levels off then not the worst contract around. Just hope the new owner rebuilds the front office and coaching staff.

  2. Casuals always severely ignore or underrate player mentorship… He's talented and has the potential.. it only takes players like this to have time with a Damian Lillard who plays the same position.

  3. Tough to develop as a player who is a fantastic athlete, but needs floor space to attack the basket to be at their best, and that's most of the players on your team. You don't have consistent shooters around you that defenses respect to maintain driving lanes. Making the whole team's half-court offense often look embarrassing. It's not just on him. Trying to finish at the rim with 5 defenders in the paint is going to lower that FG%s.

  4. He had the same issue Westbrook had his whole career. Explosive as hell but no ability to slow down to like 70% for the last half second to get the shot off with control. It is really hard to finish a shot/lay up when doing it at 100% speed.

  5. Games 1-3 was scoot coming out party. However I believe him barking at Dylan Harper and scoot not backing it up while Harper was going off lowkey rattled his confidence. Hence why game 4 and game 5 was bad but I think he can get better. He showed in that game 2 he has star potential.

  6. At minimum, Scoot earned the right to at least get to RFA, where the Blazers can decide whether or not to match any deal he gets.

I truly hope Tom Dundon doesn't become such a cheapskate to the point where they let him walk.

  7. He still is a bust, at best he is a Jalen Green kind of player. The Blazers should cash in and trade him while some people are still thinking he has NBA level talent

  8. As a blazer fan, I have been a scoot henderson buyer since the beginning. He definitly has had his struggles but I would see flashes of greatness. Now to see how he played down the stretch of this last season has made me excited about his future. I think with the mentorship of Jrue Holiday, he has the potential to be that kind of player.

  9. Um no, that is not "having the right idea" of passes, a point guard doesn't just pass the ball to the location of a teammate and call it a day, you pass to the advantage position that teammate can reach but defenders can't, kinda forcing him to move in a certain way, when that teammate grab the ball he should automatically know where to go or who to hockey pass next, no need to think, that's the difference between leading your team with passes and getting assists, a great point guard might have less assist numbers but can run point better, CP3 is the best example, and Scoot is far from that his passes can't even avoid being figured out by defenders and get stolen, sure Billups' slow offense is a problem but no coach with job security can tolerate a point guard pass this lose (Splitter just so happen to be a coach without job security), he proved he can score like Rus at times but not much more, bare minimum valuable enough to say he is not a bust, Blazers would be dumb to extend him with max or even near max.

  10. I would sign him to a one maybe two year prove it deal to make sure he’s actually grown and is worth a big contact and thus just isn’t a flash in the pan. If he won’t take it, to me that’s a red flag. If you don’t just let him play one more year on his current deal and see then. Prolly the best course of action. If the owner will actually pay up!

  11. I don’t think there’s any way that Portland let’s him walk at the end of next season. He now has pretty solid trade value around the league, so if they’re unwilling to commit long-term money to retain him, then we are going to see it by Portland trading him either before the season begins or at this upcoming season’ trade deadline.

  12. Having a coach that’s losing games on purpose your first 2 years kind of messes up your timeline so I don’t judge him too harshly
