The Playoff Series That Defined 2000s NBA Basketball

Possibly the greatest NBA Playoff series ever played? Flashback to 2002: The mighty LA Lakers, led by Shaq and Kobe, were expected to win their 3rd straight NBA title. Nobody could compete with this team. But the Sacramento Kings thought they could. They had been growing each year, getting better, acquiring new pieces, and gaining more playoff experience. They lost to the Lakers in the 1st Round in 2000. They lost to the Lakers in the 2nd Round in 2001. But the 01-02 season was different. Chris Webber was playing at an MVP level. Newly acquired point guard Mike Bibby was fitting in seamlessly. And legendary coach Rick Adelman had the squad playing a great, fun, and exciting style of true team basketball. The Kings had the best record in the league, winning over 60 games, and the entire NBA world was waiting for the eventual showdown in the Playoffs against the Lakers. So the stage is set. The Kings have home-court advantage. The Lakers may be vulnerable this year. This was an epic playoff series, and one that people still remember to this day.

  1. Imo it's the greatest series ever! But I'm a biased Sacramento Kings fan that loves Kobe Bryant. The greatest show on court Kings vs the dynastic Lakers, fighting tooth and nail in a highly skilled battle for the ages, that people are still talking about to this day.

  2. Let-s be honest, the NBA setup this series for the Lakrrsto win. The Kings should have won game 6. There was blatent fouls the Lakers did in front of the referees and the refs no-called them.

Kobe is my 2nd favorite player behind MJ, but even I know the Kings should have won.

  3. It is amazing to look at that fourth quarter of Game 6.
The Horry flop on the offensive foul
The clean block by Webber on Kobe called for a foul
    Pollard's 6th
Funderburke gets clotheslined and no call
    That damn elbow on Bibby

Remarkable how anybody with common sense can say it wasn't rigged for the Lakers
