MYSTERY: Utah Jazz Face Crucial DECISION on Darryn Peterson’s NBA Readiness After Kansas Drama
Utah Jazz face a draft-day dilemma as electrifying Kansas guard Darryn Peterson emerges as the biggest mystery ahead of the NBA draft. Can the Jazz trust Peterson’s immense potential after a traumatic full-body cramp sent him to the hospital and raised questions about his physical durability and mental resilience? Off-court noise swirls around Peterson’s family involvement and availability, while his elite skill set as a 6’6″ scoring guard matches exactly what the NBA covets.
David Locke breaks down Peterson’s turbulent season at Kansas, the impact of Bill Self’s relentless boot-camp, and what scouts are really saying about “Bucket Jones.” The episode highlights in-depth insight on draft strategy, the Jazz’s rebuild, and whether Utah should risk the No. 2 pick. Key discussion points include genetic testing, player load management, and the true influence of parental guidance in shaping NBA prospects. Will the Jazz roll the dice, or play it safe?

How do you interpret Peterson's own statements about his traumatic experience?
So many red flags with DNP. Please don’t draft him!
I think we need to trust the judgment of the Jazz’s FO and not BYU fans who are willing to completely dismantle the Jazz’s roster for AJ. 😂
Gotta say— Five Hour Energy advertising themselves as a substitution for eating sweets is WILD (and seems like a potential health issue)
all DP needs to do to get rid of cramps is use Potassium Gluconate supplement
How soon we forget Greg Oden. At #2 Peterson is OUT!
Can we take Boozer please? Can we skip all this nonsense. I feel bad for the kid but can we make this someone else’s problem please🙏 .
There’s no way Washington will take this guy #1 with all these question marks. Ainge has a decision to make
Does this guy own a comb?
Darren explained his comment about being a loner during a combine interview and he said he should have rephrased his comment as he is not a loner but a family guy and a good team mate. I believe him. If he falls to #2 I hope we take him. Glad the Jazz in such a great draft position and we have excellent folks in the FO that know what they are doing.
Looking like a mad scientist
My son is a medical physicist in Salt Lake. He’s told me Petersons cramps were caused from keratin not carotene it’s a chemical it develops. If you work yourself too hard when you’re out of shape and there’s records that the coach pushed him really hard to make an example out of him, he pushed him really hard, right off the bat and it tore his muscles down, too much, screwed his muscles up,
Boozer is a Beast!!
Look at all the problems they said Bailey had it was national news for two weeks, and he fell to us because of that hopefully the same thing happens here. I hope we end up with Peterson.
David is spot on Stephen Smith is either right on or dead wrong. Kendrick Perkins is always wrong. Go the other way from what they say. Look how they judged Ace Bailey last year. I trust the Jazz brass to be through.
Nice to see you dealing with reality vs foolish gaslighting about preferring Peterson to AJ… that was as lame as tanking.
I have had (as probably many others) some really bad cramps early night on your thighs. Mostly because of exercising and drinking badly.
Sometimes it can be so bad you really think you are a goner.
This can also come to your mind many nights after and you try to do everything so that it would not. Keep your legs warm, remember to drink and flex.
This only usually lasts for 5 minutes or so.
Now think that its full body and lasts for 45 minutes.
A thing that came to my mind. Mika Häkkinen Finnish F1 driver crashed really badly and hurt his legs. He really thought he would die and it took him a lot mentally to get over it. (Youtube Mika Häkkinen Adelaide)
He went and won 2 World Championships after the fact.
Locke, you talk about how your family drives Hyundai, how you use Game Time, how Steve Carter is your own personal loan officer. You even talk about which flavor of 5 Hour Energy you like best. And then there is Kalshi. If your own children came to you and asked if they should sports gamble on Kalshi, I'm guessing you'd tell them no. So why do you promote a product that has such obvious negative impact? Would you encourage your own family to sports gamble like you support others of your sponsors? Do the right thing. Drop shameful sponsors.
2:26 Ha, I saw that interview and thought that guy was way too emotionally involved.
The incident that really stands out to me was Peterson taking himself out of a game. He did early in half and without telling nearby coach.
I will say as someone who lives close to KU in Lawrence, a lot of the KU alumni I talked with were not huge fans of DP’s due to how the season turned out.
6’4.5 not 6’6. (You don’t say a 5’10 model is 6’2 because she wears high heels on the runway.) But I want the jazz to draft him all the same.
Sounds like the kid got a visit from Uncle Rhabdo. Scary stuff. I am comfortable if the Jazz take him, he will be fine.
DP is going to be in and out just like Kawai
Let's face it, the guy had rhabdomyolysis. That's a huge deal. And taking it easy important afterward.
Simply put…The DP decision may be the most important decision in recent Utah Jazz history…you HAVE to get it right. The opportunity cost is too great if you have a chance to draft someone who may be a top 10-15 player, and pass for a lesser prospect (even though the other prospects, Cam Boozer and Caleb Wilson, are very nice). How would DP do in the type of environment the Jazz create for players' development and health? These are questions that the Jazz decision makers must absolutely nail. I think the level of aggressiveness the Jazz are in trading for #1 pick may reveal how they feel about DP. They better be right.
