CHANGE NEEDED! Lakers MUST FIND ROTATION SPOT or TRADE for Jarred Vanderbilt!

So Dillon Brooks — yes, that Dillon Brooks — put Lakers forward Jarred Vanderbilt into the news cycle when he volunteered Vando when asked by a Twitch streamer named Ray who Brooks thought was the dumbest player in the league.

Brooks also said — because hey, you don’t want to be mean, right? — that he feels Vanderbilt also has untapped potential.

The latter question is particularly important to the Lakers, because Vanderbilt, who is under contract (essentially) for a couple more seasons, is currently a big drag on the payroll, making over $12 million next season without being a player JJ Redick likes to actually put on the floor. So is some of this on the coach? Is he not using Vanderbilt correctly? Is he too impatient? Should Redick work harder to make the Vando thing work? Or is this more a Vando problem, given that his skill sent hasn’t improved at all since arriving in LA?

What about a trade? Could the Lakers find one that didn’t cost them more than one first rounder? Would teams demand two? Is that too much just to open up a roster spot they’d have no guarantee of filling? Would any transaction like that have to come with a definitive understanding of the roster improvement the Lakers would make?

All of those Q’s and more!

  1. Seems like Vando never really got all the way back from his injuries, just not explosively quick like he was, his explosive quickness was his most valuable attribute

  2. Brian always "Knows" what his brother is saying. But GD-it it would be nice if he'd let him finish his thoughts so we could know. Sheez after XTeenth years as brothers he should know his brother might disagree.

  3. Vando value could be with a unit comprised of Smart, Theiro, Hayes and another athlete where they just scramble and create defensive havoc for a few minutes to disrupt an opponents flow.

  4. If Vando was on a vet min, nothing to discuss. But a guy making $12-13M/yr should be a solid rotation contributor and he just isn’t. He’s a B on defense and a F on offense. Plus, for whatever reason, he’s never been able to play more than 15-20 mins. So, his contract is a killer. It’s a sunk cost now though. Giving up FRP to get off of it when you gave up one to get off Westbrook and take him on in the first place would just be more front office malpractice from Pelinka. Just gotta eat it next season and see if his expiring contract has any use the following season.

  5. I take it back…. the dumbest fckn person in basketball is pelinka for these damn player options with guys who are either past their prime or never proved shit

  6. Andy must be on crack! ā€œVando is more playable than JJ allowā€? Vando Can’t Shoot middies, 3s, mediocre at dribbling, can barely dunk, and can’t finish around the rim.

  7. You have to keep them and have them as your starter. Remember even the Chicago Bulls try having Dennis Rodman come off the bench in the playoffs and it didn’t work Phil Jackson had to put them in there and take out Toni Kukoč because in the playoffs you’re not allowed to have that many shooters on the court you gotta have defense you gotta have rebounders. You don’t trade a player like Dennis Rodman you don’t trade him.

  8. What the Lakers need to do is fire their coach because not having a coach that can call players is gonna lose every time in the playoffs. They should hire Derek Fisher and Brian Shaw and get Luke Walton and hire Robert Ori as a shooting coach and half Phil Jackson has their Yoda to help him win a championship and get the blueprint and the process starting to win championships back to back to back

  9. šŸ‘‰šŸ‘‰šŸ‘‰ TRADE Luka!!! They will get a $hitload back!!! Keep everyone else and beef up with a ton of high quality role players. That’s a championship team!

  10. During most of the season he was benced! When you ask players that don't play most of the season, then come off the bench it is not fair to the team fans or players! Especially at crunch time! The players should be on the court all season long! ThAt builds the team!

  11. I'm disappointed in JJ DANTONI.😢😢 We have needed a guy like Vando for years he can guard 1-4 has quick feet and a high basketball IQ. He has no offense and it seems to degrade every year however defense wins Championships and he has it in spades.
