SURPRISE – The CASE for Cameron Boozer as the Utah Jazz PICK at #2
Utah Jazz face a franchise-defining draft decision: Should Cameron Boozer be the top pick despite questions about his athleticism? Bleacher Report ranks Boozer as the potential No. 1, drawing comparisons to Luka Doncic, but his lack of verticality has sparked debate. David Locke breaks down Boozer’s unique skill set—his imposing 6’9″, 250-pound frame, elite shooting percentages, and pick-and-roll prowess—while weighing these strengths against glaring defensive concerns.
Key topics include Boozer’s statistical comps to NBA shooters, whether AJ DeBansa or Darren Peterson offer higher upside, and how Boozer’s style could exploit switches in Will Hardy’s system. Locke also challenges Jazz fans: Can current prospects like Keyonte George, Isaiah Collier, and Bryce Sensabaugh rise to the defensive and physical demands of elite postseason basketball? The episode examines what it takes for Utah to make the leap from regular season promise to playoff contenders.

Reiterating the fact that I'm an aggie, not a cougar. But I feel like in the pods since the lottery selection we've spent more time on the negative of AJ and the positive of DP and Cam, I get the major red flag on the shooting, but I'd be interested on hearing the positive of AJ. Like, does he fit with Ace, Key, Lauri, Walker, JJJ?? Does his rim, mid range, iso creation add something valuable to what we already have… I feel like we've gotten the case for "why not", I'm interested on the case for "why yes", outside of just hopping he develops a shot and becomes a top 8 player.
Keyonte did just fine against Castle when we played him.
The constant cuts where you'd pause don't work well in a podcast format.
I don't think we should draft a player based on their ability to beat Wemby. I think we should try to do that as a team, which I think we have with 3 7 footers in the front – although they aren't great passers. That said, Boozer is my number 3. I think he has a chance to be Karl Malonesk, because he can shoot. DP is my #1 pick because I think he has or will get the med figured out, and we need his ball handling, shooting, defense, etc. However, I don't know how he will fit into the team and culture. That is where AJ and Cam have him beat – they are rock solid there. AJ will end up being a bust if he doesn't get his shooting improved, which is worrisome. I can think of other players who made it into college and the NBA because of their size and athleticism, who are now out of the league without a stir, because their shot never came. Sometimes, shooting just doesn't come. The best players tend to always have shooting.
Dp is my choice at 2
it's weird to me how this has been touted as one of the best draft classes ever and now we're casting doubts on all the top players: "AJ can't shoot", "Boozer's unathletic", "DP has health issues and doesn't pass". we have the #2 pick in an amazing class and any of these guys is a future all star.
Personally I'm really not a fan of the constant cuts. That has been a theme recently in media and it's a little overwhelming and unnatural as a viewer.
We want Darryn Peterson. Best two way player and best shooter and he is a better passer than we realize. If his medicals come back clean, and we don't draft him that would suck very much 😭 If Washington takes Darryn, we take AJ. There's no third horse unless Darryn's medicals come back sketchy which they shouldn't. IF they do, the third horse becomes Caleb Wilson because we need a superstar to come out of this draft. We also wouldn't be drafting off just potential as Caleb and Boozer played each other just this season and Caleb Wilson looked like the better player outside of Boozer's rebounding which Caleb seems to be a just fine rebounder.
Tell me if they play the spurs that he cant out match Johnson, Vassell, Champaigne. While they could use DP to match Castle and harper.
I'd rather see Darius Acuff's
name than Boozers on draft night. :/
I feel like this team is better than Cleveland and new York. The spurs and thunder will give us problems for the next 5-10 years
Not trying to be overly negative, The new format isn’t an upgrade.
I am happy we will draft AJ, DP or Boozer. We will not lose. However, My pick would be Boozer. The biggest reason is injuries. The Jazz will fail in the next 10 years if they run in to the injury bug. JJJ, LM and WK have never played 70+ games for consecutive seasons. Boozer seems like he is the most durable guy out of the top four, and that will matter alot with current and future rosters. Plus Ace and KG will be even better with him, but the defense could be an issue.
New system glitching really bad.. Vid’s skipping often. 😢😢😢😢
If Dybantsa goes 1 then Boozer goes 2. Spencer Checketts called it the day of the lottery
I’m happy with any of the three – AJ, DP, and CB. I do keep thinking that people are underestimating Cam though. He’s the better shooter, he’s tough, works hard, has a very high basket IQ, and pedigree. But like I said, I’d be happy with any of the three.
It’s very interesting to me that whenever we actually discuss what this team needs to bring in to be great is perimeter defense, a secondary ball in hand scorer and distributor, and another knock down sniper 3 point shooter and we’re talking about taking anyone other than Darryn Peterson in this draft.
He really, truly is by far the best fit and is very frequently given the title of most talented player in the draft by nba talent evaluators and FO members.
Kansas absolutely did not use him correctly. Bill self wanted him to play like Devin booker, so he did. He’s not Devin booker, he’s a combo of Tyrese maxey and SGA.
The fact that we have Jaron Jackson Junior and Lauri it makes 0 sense to take boozer. We need either AJ or Peterson whoever doesn't get drafted 1st boozer isn't going to play center cuz Wemby would own him. Unless he breaks out to be the best shooter and can rebound amazing for his size im sorry but a 6'8 6'9 center isn't gonna work and unless we are trading Lauri or jjj this year then it makes no sense plus the ceiling for AJ and Peterson is higher
something new, like a decent mic? lol
You also need to be looking at Caleb Wilson measured out at a 40 inch vertical and basically 6 foot 10 very quick sleeper and has a very high ceiling. He may not be the shooter that the others are but he's 19 years old and we know that that can be developed. He's got a great metering game and he's very much a mixture of Kevin Garnett and Giannis
I've watched some of Boozer, and he reminds me of a poor man's Jokic. The defense will probably always be a question mark. It's a matter of how good is he in the other facets
8:50 Carlos boozer lol
Take DP
David, heavy footed for Booz is a ridiculous description. Combine numbers are nearly identical to AJ. Booz: Shuttle=2.99, Lane=11.06, Sprint=3.31Length=7’1.5”. AJ: Shuttle=2.99, Lane=11.06, Sprint=3.14 Length=7’0.5”. Booz is an incredible athlete.
Given what injuries did to Jabari Parker and Dante Exum for all the promise… I don’t hate durability as a metric to look at.
Classic brain vs athleticism. At the end of the day the greats are defined by the way they process the game. I would also argue he's strong as an ox and that is its own form of very important athleticism. I also heard he was much more of a wing play in HS. He could easily lose 15 pounds and be the next cooper Flagg,
We'll draft Boozer to beat wemby then get swept by the Spurs because we don't have another scoring playmaker. Quit overthinking this. Draft the best player
Basketball is a sport that rewards a high skill level. A great body and great athletes with poor skills will struggle. High skill guys with average or below average (for the NBA) athleticism can still be very good. Even great. Luka. Duncan. When you have both, you have one of the all-time best players. Jordan. Kobe. Victor (soon).
If boozer is picked. he becomes the future small forward. Ace at the 2 and Keyonte can shoot the ball. They both would benefit from his passing.
