NBA Draft Expert Sam Vecenie On Who Dallas Should Pick At No. 9, Masai Ujiri, & More Mavs Prospects
Sam Vecenie of The Athletic talks with Marc Stein about this years’ loaded draft class. Should the Mavs pick Kingston Flemings, Brayden Burries, Mikel Brown Jr. or Labaron Philon to pair with Cooper Flagg? What’s behind Aday Mara’s draft stock rise? What does Masai Ujiri look for in a draft prospect? What insight can he give on new GM Mike Schmitz? He answers all those questions and MORE!
**Editor’s note: This was recorded before the Mavs and Jason Kidd mutually parted ways.**

Burries should be the pick if we can't get Peterson. Burries could be a dominant force for a team from the jump with his size.
Trade back for a extra pick and select Carr out of Baylor and another young player
I think Karim Lopez fits what both mike and masai like versatile, size, international
WTH is he talking about? The Dallas center position is NOT "well stocked". Gafford was banged up all year and that takes a toll, Cisse is still a work in progress (and is an unsigned RFA, last I knew), and if you're counting on Derrick Lively being a big contributor you're pretty delusional. He MIGHT give you something this year, but you'd better plan as if he's not even on the team.
Cam Cameron
I'll answer the Mara question correctly for you.. He's moving up in the draft bec his physical stats and abilities were confirmed by the combine and exceeded any expectations. Add that to the Wembanyama takeover fears, he's going 11 at the very very latest
ALL NBA NEXT YEAR BABY "FLAGG"
Mavs better get Cameron Carr,, Mavs better get a " DIFFERENCE MAKER" Carr is going to be a Star, and Flagg needs a Star to run with. WATCHING FROM THE PHILIPPINES
Ujiri is head honcho. So if you wanna know who they'll draft, just go study Toronto under him.
He first of all has his draft board. Duh. Since it's the 9th pick, he'll invite the 4th to 15th ranked players for workouts. Now, he's the type of guy who will bring in a say — 5th ranked player for workout, but, off the eye test, sees that the best player is mocked at say 15. Ujiri will with zero hesitation pick that 15th mocked player for the #9 pick and damn what anyone else thinks.
Now he does like players with long arms and defensive upside. Off of this he's not likely to pick someone like Flemings. Conversely, if a long limbed player like Nate Ament comes in, doesn't impress him in the workouts, he'll pass on him even if he's on the board.
Burries , Wagler or trade the pick if both guys are taken.
If Mikel and Wagler are off the board at #9, we should try to trade back with OKC or Charlotte to grab an extra pick and take Cam Carr. He’s going to be one of the best players of this draft
None of the guys in the thumbnail will be available at 9, sorry!
I hope Brown falls to Dallas but I'm in on Kingston too.
