mara is a project, he isnt worth 6th pick, he is a backup center at this point in his career. he struggles laterally on defense and can only score inside with no jumpshot.
I wouldn't be pissed off if the Nets took Mara at 6. Ideally we trade back with Atlanta. 6 & 33 for 8 & 23, and take Mara at 8. Or trade with Dallas – 6 & 43 for 9 and 30.
When they get above 7'1 it starts to be a concern if they can actually play starter minutes for 82 games and playoffs. Its an element the nets have lacked for a long time but probably isnt the time to be putting all the pressure on mara to turn that around by himself. Probablly better to find that role from a veteran who isnt fitting with the long term vision on their current team. Walker kessler or someone with similar skillset down the road. If they make the pick they need to be sold that he is capable of taking on nba starter minutes at some point in the future for them, not just a 22 minutes per night player that just wins the +/- every night.
