Rise and Fall of the Beam Team

Rise and Fall of the Beam Team

In 2023, the Sacramento Kings became the best story in the NBA.

After a 16-year playoff drought, they exploded into the 3 seed with the most efficient offense in league history. The Beam Team had arrived and the entire city was lighting the sky after every win.

It looked like the beginning of something but just a few years later… it was already over.

This video breaks down the full story of the Kings’ rise, their historic 2022-23 season, the playoff battle with the Warriors, and how things fell apart so quickly.

What happened to the Beam Team?

  1. Fox decided to quit on the team & demand a trade the first season with DeRozan. You could literally see him on the court half assing it at times the month before he was shipped off. He looked like he was on his way to becoming a superstar that year they made the playoffs but it just didn’t happen. Now the Kings front office could’ve been smarter & got a better deal for Fox. The fact that they ended up with Lavine was so dumbfounding, had to have been stupid Vivek who wanted Lavine. Vivek doesn’t know how to stay out of the way of running a basketball team & it’s blown up in his face time & time again. I also don’t think Doug Christie is head coach material & the way Vivek hired Perry was bizarre. Vivek won’t even show up to important press conferences anymore, that’s how big of a fool he is. I don’t see anything improving as long as he’s around.

  2. It started with the Haliburton trade, should have kept him and drafted a big that could develop alongside Fox and Haliburton. Then could have consistently had the team and it’s important role players flourishing (Monk, Keegan, Keon, Huerter)…

  3. Blowing up the record-setting offense because what you think you need is a famous name on the roster may not have proved the best move. Of course, they then made coach pay for the GM's (i.e., V. Divac) incompetence. Getting fired from THAT team is a badge of honor.
