Detroit Pistons Eye Trey Murphy III as TOP Trade Target—Why They MUST Land the Sharpshooting Wing
Detroit Pistons ramp up pursuit of Trey Murphy III as rumors swirl—could Murphy be the franchise’s top offseason target? Ku Khahil breaks down why the sharpshooting New Orleans Pelicans wing intrigues Detroit, evaluating Murphy’s elite three-point shooting, off-ball movement, and athleticism, while raising crucial questions about his self-creation and on-ball limitations.
The episode dives deep into the proposed trade framework involving Isaiah Stewart, Ron Holland, and draft picks, weighing risks such as losing Holland’s upside against the cap flexibility Murphy’s contract provides. With strong interest from Detroit’s front office, roster construction, flexibility for future moves, and player fit alongside Cade Cunningham, Ausar Thompson, and Jalen Duren come into focus. Can Murphy’s arrival spark Detroit’s rebuild— or does the package present too much risk for Trajan Langdon squad?

Trade for a one-trick pony now, then deal with the consequences later.
TM3 is the top trade target for many teams. this makes his cost very high.
Is he a upgrade over Beasley? I still won’t Beasley back just imagine if we have Trey Murphy Malik Beasley and Duncan. Oh my goodness talk about dangerous.
Pistons need a playmaker that can create their own shots while playing defense. Trading Beef Stew and Ron Holland for any player is suicide to get that type of player needed. You had a player that could create their own shots while playing defense in jaden Ivey. Giving up your best rim defender, team player, and 2nd best defender on team just to get what Ivey was while losing your identity and strength in defense is a crack head move. No way Pistons win 60 games without them this year.
As long as it’s not Kyrie
Trey Murphy lll, is definitely an upgrade no matter how you look at it! He’s a legit number 2..I’m onboard..Soon shall see..🤔
If u can’t get TM3 you have to do whatever it takes to get Cam Carr in the Draft!!
Trey Murphy actually has a solid handle, regardless of what the numbers say….the film says he can create his own shot if he really needs too (as well as utilize screens effectively). Mind you Trey Murphy was being guarded like the number 1 option in New Orleans with Zions health always being an issue (along with Herb Jones), so it's no wonder why he was likely struggling to create consistently when he's being guarded by opposing teams best defenders plus all the help defense he was facing (helping off New Orleans non shooters and bigs). In Detroit Trey doesn't have to be worry about that level of defense, because he has Cade and presumably another shot creator on the court next to him…and those two things should alleviate some of those isolation concerns he faced while in New Orleans. My only real issue with Trey is perhaps the health concerns, granted he played in New Orleans and who knows how many of those minor injuries were actually real considering they were attempting to tank for multiple years with him on the roster.
YES PLEASE
Theres so much hype for this deal, I'm now going to be mad disappointed if we don't get him. I'm really hoping Trajan drafting him in New Orleans gives us an inside track…. As well as weavers affinity for our guys.
Obviously this generation makes analysis based on NBA2K video games. While the previous generation actually studied the game in-depth. Backed then folks watched games and evaluated players at gyms and even playgrounds across the country.
Sasser can create for himself
Did v you say 10% in Isolation, lol that sounds horrible. Is that on D, One on One.
The thing missing here is Joe dumars actual asking price. Reports in the last couple weeks have the nop front office saying they want to get better now, not just picks to move TMiii. If they actually just want a bunch of picks at least the pistons can beat teams like Indiana. However most nba teams would love to have Murphy on that contract. So it’s going to come down to who can really win the bidding war and if it’s the pistons it maybe those young prospects + 3 or more 1st + maybe some swaps. And that may work if that’s Langdon really thinks he doesn’t need to make more moves using picks… but moving multiple picks would take them out of the conversation for other truly good trades down the line. At least this is an area where the pistons have been able to legally talk and make progress. I’m sure nop has been waiting to see other offers now that San Antonio and everyone is in the conversation for off season moves now. So 🤔 we’ll see but the biggest thing is if it’s worth the costs when he just adds more shooting and not creation or rebuilding so there will still need to be a couple more moves.
I know you guys love all your players, but who you want to trade for Murphy is junk to everyone else.
Four first round picks would have to be included.
Get Trey Murphy and Jabari Parker
Trey is also injury prone so there's that. Seems like a lot for Trey. We'd still need more shooting so we'd have to depend on Chaz improving and another signing of someone who can shoot. There has to be that much more scoring if we are getting rid of the 2nd and 3rd best defenders on our team.
The last 4 years Markkannen has played 47. 55. 66. 61 ga,mes. The Pistons can afford his big contract but they cannot afford his medical bills…Ku, I hereby forbid you from mentioning that name ever again.
I would like to see Murphy here. His 3pt shooting & spacing is essential to this team taking that next step. Let’s kill that noise about what he doesn’t do. Can we stop with this we have to get a player that checks ✅every box
What happens to our defensive identity and toughness if we trade away Stew and Ron? We Cant undervalue that
He doesn't know what the hell he's talking about I've literally watched Troy Murphy III handle the ball and get his own buckets 😂😂
I can't see them making this trade and not requiring the 21 pick from DET. They don't have a 1st rd pick this year
Ron Holland would likely welcome a deal to a team where he can really be more than a role player. Look to trade Ausar if he wants a near max deal like his brother will get
Does Trey add spacing? He's replacing Duncan who literally has some of the most shooting gravity in the NBA. They were #1 and #2 amongst non primaries in the NBA's off ball perimeter gravity rating. The difference is negligible.
The only way to meaningfully improve the spacing is by upgrading at PF. And getting a better offensive player at PF is really expensive in terms of salary.
If you're already paying like 95% of the cap to 4 guys you don't really have another 20% for a PF.
So if they get Murphy what other move could we expect? You mentioned another move just wondering who that might be.
Damn, hate that it has to include Ron holland to get Trey, but we do need Trey Murphy here bad though.
With all due respect..WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD THE PELS GIVE UP MURPHY FOR THOSE BUMS and not get as many draft pics as possible.. including this years 21st pic..weaver and joe not as dumb as people think…if we still had Ivey to trade then maybe
2 things:
1. If he's such a good player and on a cheap contract, why would the Pelicans trade him? They have no incentive to tank.
2. I always hear about these good players that the Pelicans have. If they have all of these great players, why do they suck?
Go get him
