What happened to every franchise player the Minnesota Timberwolves traded away?

Starting off, we have Kevin Garnett.
He was the greatest Timberwolf ever, won MVP in Minnesota, but after years of playoff disappointment, the Wolves traded him to the Celtics in 2007. One year later, KG helped Boston win the 2008 NBA championship.

Then there’s Kevin Love.
Love became a rebounding machine and franchise star in Minnesota, but in 2014, the Wolves traded him to Cleveland for a package headlined by Andrew Wiggins. Two years later, Love helped LeBron and Kyrie bring Cleveland its first NBA title in 2016.

Next is Karl-Anthony Towns.
KAT spent nine seasons in Minnesota, finally helped the Wolves reach the Western Conference Finals in 2024, and then got traded to the Knicks before the 2024-25 season. And in 2026, Towns won a championship with New York, ending the Knicks’ 53-year title drought.

Then there’s Andrew Wiggins.
Wiggins was supposed to be Minnesota’s next superstar after the Kevin Love trade, but in 2020, the Wolves traded him to Golden State for D’Angelo Russell. Two years later, Wiggins became a huge piece of the Warriors’ 2022 championship, even putting up 18 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 steals, and 3 blocks in the closeout Game 6.

And it gets even worse when you zoom out.

Before the Timberwolves, Minnesota had the Minneapolis Lakers.
That entire franchise left for Los Angeles in 1960. Since moving to L.A., the Lakers have won 12 championships, while the Timberwolves still have zero. The Lakers have 17 total titles as a franchise, but five of those came in Minneapolis.

  1. at least i can take solace with the Timberwolves not knowing someone's worth until after they leave

Edit: Ok i guess minnesota just don't know people's worth

  2. Shout out big 99. This is why to me the Lakers have theirs and Minnesota has 5. In the same way that OKC only has 1. Because the other one belongs to my sonics and it doesn't matter that we don't exist.

  3. So what you sayin to me is… if my clippers trade for ant we will win the championship in 2 years max… lets get it done ballmer🤝🏾
