Would trading Evan Mobley for Jaylen Brown make the Cavaliers a more serious NBA Finals contender?

The idea of trading Evan Mobley for Jaylen Brown gets right to the heart of the biggest question facing the Cleveland Cavaliers after being swept by the champion New York Knicks: what exactly is this team missing? Brown gives you something the Cavs don’t have a lot of—an elite two-way wing who can create his own offense, defend multiple positions, and thrive in the physical style of basketball that often decides playoff series. If Cleveland’s biggest weakness is on the wing, it’s easy to see why a player like Brown would be appealing.

  3. Just so you know, you have it all wrong. The Cavs need to trade Jared Allen and everything they can for the best most serviceable wing player that compliments Donavan, Mitchell and Evan Mobley. Mobley it’s good enough on defense give them both more space to operate and you can have a rotation of serviceable centers at that position. James Harden is known for making them better. Allen is a good player, but he is a luxury you do not need. You can find 3/4 of what he offers in a backup Big thats cheaper. Find some wings you’d be a dangerous pace and space team

  4. I think trading Mobley for Jaylen Brown is the exact kind of move teams regret.

    Brown is very good, but the logic seems way too focused on traditional wing shot creation. Yes, Brown can create off the dribble. But bigs can create advantages too. Amar’e Stoudemire, Paul Millsap, Carlos Boozer, etc. all created offense by being elite finishers, screeners, rollers, and pressure points who forced defenses to tag, rotate, and give up open looks. That is creation, even if they weren’t bringing the ball up and isolating.

    Now imagine that kind of offensive advantage creator, but with Mobley’s defensive ceiling. That is the part people are underselling. Mobley can be a true two-way franchise pillar: someone who anchors an elite defense while also becoming the offensive big who bends defenses through roll gravity, quick decisions, mismatches, and catches on the move.

    Brown gives you more self-created perimeter scoring, no doubt. But he does not give you Mobley’s defensive ceiling, age curve, frontcourt versatility, or potential to anchor both a top defense and a high-level offense if used correctly.

    The answer should be to actually build around Mobley’s strengths, not trade him because the Cavs haven’t been creative enough in how they use him.

  7. I strongly consider it. I believe Jaylen Brown is a franchise player. He's a wing. A 2 way player. Knows what it take to win a Championship, Finals MVP. If you're a person that believes Donovan Mitchell can't be the best player on a Championship team (I'm not one of them), Jaylen Brown is better then Spida. After that, i would try to see if I can get Bobby Portis to be apart of the trade and make him your 4.

  8. I also think it is a mistake to judge a player’s injuries in context. The context is he is one of the best players in the world and those years his team did not have a chance why not preserve your body instead of waste it. LeBron is the only one who could will nobodies to the finals.

  9. Sorry but this is a bad trade idea. Contracts aside, as players, I'd rather have Giannis than Brown, and if I can't get Giannis, I'd rather keep Mobley than acquire Brown. First and foremost is fit. Mitchell Harden and Brown trying to share the ball? Mobley is a much more impactful player without the ball in his hand than JB. Plus, the Cavs need to get bigger, not smaller. Losing front-court depth for a wing that may not fit alongside our ball-dominant guards sounds like a disaster. More talent isn't always better.

  16. Brown is a shot clunker look at his shooting splits 47/34/79 and took him 22 FGA to get him 28 pts

    Maybe for Donovan.
    A Harden – Tyson – Brown – Mobley – Allen starting 5 entices me
    but doubt Cs entertain that.

  20. It depends. If Mobley came to training camp at 245-250 lbs., and showed a serious commitment to improving physically instead of jacking up 3 pointers in the off season, then I'd consider keeping him, because he's 7' tall.

  22. Cavs starting lineup Harden Dmitch JBrown JTyson and Jarret Allen fill out the height and a harden replacement on the bench I’m good with it 😅
