SHOOTING WOES: Houston Rockets MUST FIX 3-Point Game Around Kevin Durant & Alperen Sengun

Houston Rockets face a pivotal offseason as questions mount about their direction—will the team double down on Alperen Şengün and Amen Thompson or reshape the roster for a modern NBA attack? Shooting woes, three-point attempts, and non-shooters in the starting lineup put the spotlight on Fred VanVleet, Kevin Durant, and potential targets like Landry Shamet, Jose Alvarado, and Myles Turner.

Host Jackson Gatlin (@JTGatlin) is joined by sports reporter for Chron.com Michael Shapiro (@mshap2) to discuss Ime Udoka’s strategic offensive preferences, the future of Dorian Finney-Smith, and how the Rockets balance defense with much-needed floor spacing. Can Houston secure the prime-time shooters and rim protectors needed to contend, or will contract management and luxury tax worries limit bold moves? Don’t miss this action-packed breakdown of trade rumors, player development, and the critical decisions that will define the Rockets’ trajectory in the Western Conference.

  1. Just look at your thumbnail. I think that pretty much sums up KD with this squad. KD moaning, Alp with his head down. KD is not right for this group and is not right for our chemistry. I don't believe KD's ego will allow him to be "part" of this group because he acts and carries himself like he is above them. He is not a leader.. IMO plan for the future, KD's value will never be this high again in his career.

  2. Since time i think this ya best take..
They need to get out of the gumbo stage ! Pick a direction
That being said im keep saying it Alpi will be much better with a athletic big i mean we need somebody that can actually stop ✋️ rim attacks
..I will never accept Alpi as my center again after how Dominayton made him look
But ALPI is my best player for a 4 point 4 doing what he do

  3. Stone wont bring an expensive center and pay 75-80 m dollar for 3 centers , so these names you bring probably wont happen (kessler, turner) . If Jabari gets stronger a little bit , he can play as effective as Turner , he already spaces the floor. Rockets may think a cheaper target for the 3rd center position . A suggestion would be: Adem Bona . He has 4.7 m for two years salary thats bery very cheap for rockets .He is Alpi’s friend from his very young days ( under-16 age national tournaments at Türkiye) and also currently at Türkiye national team . Adem is a lob threat and a very elite rim protector (15 min 1.5 blocks per game) He is an athletic freak who is used to playing with Alpi at double big. This would also help Alpi since his friend will join the team. Other than the center addition , they should get at least two guards. Our real opponents in next 5 years will be San Antonio and OKC , they have huge guard depth . We need guards who can battle with Castle, Harper, Shai , Caruso, Dort . This wont happen with just Fred and Reed who are undersized .We need backcourt improvement big guards who can stand up to these two team guards and they should shoot wide open 3s

  4. I don’t know what is it about this guy idea about all these vanilla players he is considering. Rockets need a superstar to help KD. No vanilla players will help improve Rockets postseason performance. Alperen Şengün needs to be traded. If Alperen Şengün haven’t put it together that he needs to step up and do whatever it takes to win, that’s Alperen Şengün detriment to his own character. Alperen Şengün traded for Brown in a three teams trade strengthen the Rockets.

  5. Thanks, Jackson. Episodes with Michael are really outstanding. I was wondering if Lakers’ Reeves could be acquired for Tari and maybe someone like Jabari or DFS which helps their defense. Just speculating!

  6. Rockets' biggest need is offensive plays, not offensive players. Running a lot of isolation and 1-on-1 offense won't get you anywhere. A better offensive system will do more for this team than adding another scorer.

  7. Thats the key, not getting big names. Fix the current roster with MINOR TWEAKS. The first five with FVV will be good because there's an experienced stabilizer even with low minutes, it will significantly lessen the self inflicted errors and dumb end of the shot clock plays.
I think they should get a Q. Grimes or Royce Oneal type of player ( 3pt shooting with some defense) Not saying the exact players but players that played like their roles.
Houston went 52-30 last season with all the chaos, issues, chokes, inexperienced pressure handling etc. just try to run at full strength and with the right help. Get an offensive minded coach under Udoka's wing (if D'Antoni is available, that will be great)
