It depends on the 1st year head coach. For example, bears HC Johnson do you think any owner not gonna give up a minimum 3 year deal. He was supply in demand. He pretty much chose his destination and price
I’m shocked this isn’t a thing that isn’t standardized. I think it’s absurd that there are so many instances where u sign a mediocre to mid coach and then u have to pay him to not work
What is happening here. The Blazers new plantation owner doesn't want or care to win.
He bought the Blazers purely as an investment. The values of pro teams has grown exponentially. No mater if your a winning franchise.
He has come in and slashed everyone. And cut wages. Portland also might not exist as a basketball city…
You really think if Schotty signed that contract it wouldn't get leaked? Everyone would know
Here’s the problem with Mike Florio’s line of thinking. Head coaching contract information gets out and everyone knows the numbers. If you have a team and you give a guy a one-year deal his players won’t respect him. They’ll know it won’t matter if he doesn’t like them because he’s on borrowed time. And those same players, if they REALLY don’t like the coach, will just sabotage him so he’ll fail. So I think you want the players to fear him a bit. That’s my guess.
The only reason to guarantee contracts for coaches is to get players to play for them, to believe that they will be there for the long haul. Bad coaches should be very flushable.
You're lucky to be making that kind of money. Make coaches earn it.
The most that would happen is that the non premier candidates will receive this treatment. But anyone with suitors will get the standard 4-5 years
