Just When You Thought The OKC Thunder Were Done Robbing The NBA Draft

The OKC Thunder just drafted the biggest steals of the NBA Draft in Aday Mara and Bennett Stirtz despite the team already looking primed to make it back to the NBA Finals for another championship next season. Sam Presti has used his magic once again to draft players who could be great fits next to reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jalen Williams, and Chet Holmgren. With the 12th overall pick the Thunder drafted Aday Mara who has already been dubbed the Wemby Stopper, and is expected to be another frontcourt option for the Thunder. Mara anchored the defense of the national champion Michigan Wolverines but who will also bring massive size and passing ability to the Thunder. Meanwhile, OKC traded up one spot for the 16th pick and selected Bennett Stirtz from Iowa, who is considered one of the best playmakers and shooters from this year’s draft class who can be a true point guard next to OKCs plethora of more scoring-oriented guards. In addition, OKC also drafted Otega Oweh from Kentucky in the 2nd round who is another potential draft steal.

The Thunder were expected to trade up to maybe land an elite prospect such as Aj Dybantsa, Cam Boozer or Darryn Peterson but as it appears, the Thunder are even deeper with their draft pick haul this year. The winners and losers of the Draft will be revealed in a few months from now, but the Thunder already appear to continue winning because they have once again used another selection from the Paul George trade. The LaMelo Ball trade and the Giannis move to Miami have been early headlines in the NBA offseason but the OKC Thunders draft moves might be the most impactful one towards solidifying their dynasty for years to come.
