   Maliq Brown

   Maliq Brown was the most impressive player of the group from a defensive standpoint. The coaching staff had him playing the five instead of his natural forward position, and he held his own against seven-footer Vladislav Goldin. Brown showed excellent defensive instincts, recording around eight deflections throughout the game. He’s extremely active with his hands, constantly disrupting passing lanes and making life difficult for the offense.

   While he didn’t always chase down loose balls after creating the deflections, the instincts and activity were still very encouraging. The motor and hustle can improve with experience and development.

   Offensively, Brown showed more skill than expected. He was effective in dribble handoffs, made good reads, and displayed solid passing ability for a big man. He also rebounded well and looked comfortable facilitating from the center position.

   Overall Take: Brown projects as a versatile, switchable defensive big with high basketball IQ and good passing instincts. If his motor and consistency continue to improve, he has the tools to become a very valuable role player.

   Tarris Reed Jr.

   Tarris Reed Jr. looked a little nervous and somewhat lost early in the game, which is understandable for a rookie in Summer League. Despite that, he consistently played hard and did a lot of the little things that help a team win.

   He set strong screens, excelled in dribble handoffs, boxed out well, and used his size effectively. Reed is a physical player with a big frame and still has room to get stronger.

   One of the biggest surprises was his perimeter defense. He showed the ability to switch onto guards and defend in space, displaying better agility and lateral quickness than expected for a player his size.

   Offensively, he still has room to grow. He attempted a three-pointer early that was way off, and it would benefit him greatly to develop a reliable mid-range jumper to expand his offensive game.

   Overall Take: Reed projects as a physical, defensive-minded big who can screen, rebound, and potentially switch defensively. His agility and perimeter defense were pleasant surprises, and his offensive game still has plenty of room for development.

   Ja’Kobi Gillespie

   Ja’Kobi Gillespie showed exactly what you want from a young point guard: composure and ball security. He consistently took care of the basketball and showed good playmaking ability, finishing with eight assists while running the offense.

   He is extremely quick and has a clean shooting form with a nice pull-up jumper. Although some open shots didn’t fall and he missed a few passing opportunities, the foundation of his offensive game looks promising.

   Defensively, he’ll likely have limitations due to his size and may need to be protected in certain matchups. However, he plays hard, hustles, and consistently chases down loose balls, showing good effort and competitiveness.

   Overall Take: Gillespie projects as a steady floor general who can organize an offense, make plays for others, and bring energy and hustle. If his shot becomes more consistent and his decision-making continues to improve, he has the potential to carve out a role as a reliable backup point guard.
