The difference between Gillespie and Mclaughlan, is Mc is already a polished pg, he knows his role, and he rarely makes mistakes he’s not the greatest shooter, he doesn’t make big flashy plays, but he gets the ball to the right spots, rotates well on defence and hustles…. So yeah, eventually Gillespie could fill that role, but there’d be no benefit to him being in the nba just riding the bench. He should be polishing his game in the G, he has a really nice stroke though, and he moves really well and rarely hesitates when making his moves off the catch or on the dribble, he cuts well when he passes, he’s just a VERY raw talent, which you can’t really afford to develop when pushing for a championship.

   I have been loving this spurs offseason, it feels like the first year where we actually get to see this front office put the final brush strokes to a picture that we’ve been patiently waiting for.

8. Jordan McLaughlin sucks. Net negative player.

9. Love this. McLaughlin is a good bench player. I have no problem with him filling in 10 minutes when one of the PGs is out.

12. McLaughlin's numbers speak for themselves. He checks many boxes that make him worth keeping. He matched or exceeded his contract, he's a known quantity, gets along well with teammates, the coaches trust him, he knows the system, has playoff experience.

14. Maliq Brown is a team-first guy who fits well with the Spurs philosophy. He embraces his role as a defender and is already as good as Sochan ever was. This is b/c he's a mature 22. He's a pinpoint passer. His assists would have been much higher if we wasn't passing to such lousy summer league shooters. He might be the best 3-and-D guy of the four drafted.

17. When you’re trying to win now with a generational player like wemby you HAVE to maximize every year signing guys like McLaughlin when he got no playing time in the playoffs or reg season unless it’s a blowout is a head scratcher

18. There are 4 reasons to like Jordan McLaughlin. 1. He is only on a one year contract. 2. He shot 43% from the 3 point line. 3. He communicates extrembly well with Coach Mitch Johnson when he is on the court and asked to run the offense. 4. He has a vet mentality and is not disruptive in the locker room.

19. I had zero expectations for McLaughlin when we aquired him in the Fox trade – but he has actually been pretty decent for a third stringer in the limited minutes he played, even in the play-offs. So I had an inkling that we might re-sign him and I'm not unhappy that we did. We will likely keep the 15th roster spot open for a couple of months into the season to make sure that we can stay under the luxury tax, even if KJ's and Vassel's incentives were to all kick in. But time will tell.
