Even with missed shot attempts Klay Thompson consistently makes the right plays more than any other guard last season! Max Christie had 8 games last season Scoring at least 20PTS or more same as Captain Klay's total!!!
1st thing, doing anything with Klay/gafford does not make any sense if you’re trying to compete this year.
2nd, having a crowded wing group makes for a versatile rotation. Something May is good at maximizing.
3rd, vets help rookies develop right most of the time. You wanna keep that voice in the room as long as possible
Lively? Really? The guy hasn't come close to playing a full season in two years! 36 in '24–'25. 7 in '25-'26. That's 43 games in two seasons. Time to buy him out. Better keep Gafford and he's only played an average of 56 games over the same two seasons. Where's Dwight?

They aren't buying Klay out. They have no draft pick so getting rid of some of your vet leaders just to go young makes no sense. Let them help teach, build up some value and then trade them for what you can at deadline. No need to rush just to get a few more minutes for the young guys.
So, you're basically saying the mavs should buy out Klay so we can give other players more minutes and give the heat a player they want for free. Are we a charity service?
Honestly i think you guys need to re-acces whats going on. This is an extremely deep team thats not trying to tank. Sergio and sasser will have minutes at Pg. And gafford will hold down the C with PJ providing depth. Theyre creating a winning culture here. No more tanking

Nooooo!!! I wanna bubble-wrap Kyrie. 25-30 minutes a game. If the Mavs aren't gonna poach with the trade exemption some sort of distressed star from an apron strapped team to give Cooper TWO #2 guys & at least somewhat confidently be able to give Coop at LEAST one #2 guy to run with for all 82…..if the Mavs aren't doing that, PLEASE bubble-wrap Kyrie.
I want to see what Coop can do with a legit #2 all year. I don't want him going back to having to HARD CARRY the Mavs for chunks of the season. Granted, I have much more faith that Kyrie will play more than I ever did with AD, he's still an injury concern. He may miss 11 games here, 13 games there. So it would be nice to have another star. And sure, this star may also miss 11 games here & 13 games there…but you're hoping they don't overlap that much & that they'll BOTH be good to go for the playoff push & a series.

I would like to see the Mavs do something with PJ & Naji (and also Klay cause he deserves to go compete) and that would do a lot to free up the bench for these younger players we want to develop. Also the same with Gafford buuuut who is even interested?
Bill Parcells taught EVERYONE a lot about coaching while in Dallas. One of the things that stuck with me was "progress blockers". Do you have a vet that is just kinda is who he is, but also a young player who COULD be almost as good RIGHT NOW but with some playing time could become EVEN BETTER….that vet is a progress blocker. Just go ahead & go with the younger guy. Let's get all these young rookie type mistakes out of the way ASAP & get to molding this player into a badass pro.
So yeah….PJ, Naji, Klay, Gafford are kinda being progress stoppers for the Coop era. There'd be plenty of minutes for Morez & Santi with PJ & Naji elsewhere. Biberovic can have a nice role with Klay playing for someone that needs him. And Cisse won't be buried on the bench with Gafford gone.
Sure, there's going to be some growing pains with that roster & we'll be struggling and probably in the heart of the play-in. But we're trying to turn these youngsters into a legit TEAM for '27-28.

Pretty sure Lively previously never started over Gafford. They played around the same minutes
People keep saying they're not going for a title next season, but I don't think they think they can't win. They may not be good enough to get it done, but if they're healthy they definitely have a shot to make some noise
