Breaking Down Keaton Wagler’s ROLLER COASTER Game Vs The Los Angeles Lakers
The Los Angeles Clippers tumble against the Los Angeles Lakers as Keaton Wagler experiences a true “tale of two halves” in Summer League action. Will Wagler’s development silence the doubters, or is physicality and NBA athleticism his kryptonite? Die hard LA Clippers fan and Host Darian Vaziri breaks down Wagler’s roller-coaster performance, analyzing key moments when his weaknesses—and flashes of potential—were on full display.
Key talking points include Kobe Sanders’ emergence as the Clippers’ best player of the night, the Lakers’ suffocating defense and superior athleticism, and the ongoing quest for reliable self-creation on the Clippers’ Summer League roster. Darian Vaziri spotlights team struggles against zone defense, lineup shakeups due to Cam Christie’s injury, and questions whether Baba Miller and Omier can carve out NBA roles. Can the Clippers find consistency before facing the Washington Wizards, or will growing pains continue to shape their summer narrative?

Bad Coaching, look at all the wide open 3s they had all game. Ty Lues system, the switching, so bad. Wagler walks the ball up instead of playing with pace. No rhythm. Looks like a 3 and D player this year.
Not trying to unfairly judge the kid but man I have never seen a top 5 pick 3 games in a row start a game out going 1-7 this guy is not a starter. He gotta play in the g league put some weight on and gain some confidence. He definitely needs to be in the g league though he's not ready for the NBA. This is summer league so the competition is easier then in the NBA with star players. And I get it he's not playing with much talent but neither is the other top 10 picks and they all look pretty good he's the only one that just doesn't look very good.
Martinelli is very quick, what are you talkn about?? He's got good touch, he's just rushing around a bit much. He's got a good spin move and can get by his guy he looks good.
I'm more interested in Martinelli, and Baba I think those 2 are definitely going to be stars if the coaches work with them and give them legit minutes but Wagler I know it's early but man he looks bad. He got outplayed by a 24th pick and then in 3 games in a row he starts out 1-7. Acuff hasn't been shooting well either but he just looks so much better then Wagler and he has that it or I'm that guy confidence to him.
Lakers had more experience players playing against the Clippers. And that physical play wouldn't fly in a real game 😂 Lalers would have been fouled out. Remember these are development Reffs too.
Even with that 1 game where he was "on fire", he is only averaging 16ppg on 34% FG 35% 3pt with 2.7 ast and 2.0 TO. His defense will get even more exposed if he plays in a regular NBA game.
The Bucks picks at #10 & #13 both look better and both are looking good defensively. The Bulls got arguably the best player in the draft IMO, and the Clippers should've tried to make a trade with them to get Wilson.
I know you have seen that I posted before the Clippers should've went with Yaxel who already looks like an NBA starter and not only is a solid defender but can rebound and pass very well and has a very high basketball IQ. It wasn't a fluke that Michigan dominated the NCAA tournament and Yaxel was their best player. He will only look better when he plays in the regular season and will be in the starting lineup because of the Butler injury, and will almost certainly earn his way into the starting lineup permanently.
Unfortunately the Clippers listened to the media and so called "experts" and felt they had to choose between Wagler and Acuff. I personally don't think Acuff will be all that either because of his size, but he is better than Wagler. In all the game footage and other video I watched on Keaton he reminded me of Tre Young, with less skill. That is a scary thought considering Young is the most overrated player in the last 20 years (not names Lebron). Keaton's entire came is carrying the ball, traveling, and shot jacking. Lucky for him half of the players in the NBA are allowed to make a living doing it in today's game.
If you go back and check my posts in all your videos leading up to the draft, I said numerous times they should either pick Yaxel or trade up for Wilson. I stand by that. At the end of the season it will be Caleb, AJ, and Yaxel all in the top 3 or 4 for rookie of the year voting, barring injury. Unfortunately for the Clippers Wagler will get little playing time and when he does get on the court, he will struggle against most teams.
I truly hope I'm wrong because I always root for the Clippers. I believe they deserve to get good players and eventually make it to the WCF's. It is just not happening anytime soon with SA & OKC in the West. It would've took a prime Kawhi or even a 2019 Kawhi (with really good role players) to give the Clippers a chance to compete. Since that couldn't happen, they need to draft or trade for an impact player who can take over a game when the lights are brightest and play good defense & rebound consistently.
P.S. I know Brunson is a clutch shooter and volume scorer who played great on offense in the finals. However that is the exception to the rule. The last players (that small) to be able to play like that in the NBA finals were Curry, AI, and Isiah Thomas. That spans almost 40 seasons. Those other 3 players are top 75 (2 are top 50). I understand a #5 pick isn't supposed to be near that level, but realistically, he looks more like an end of the bench player than a piece of the puzzle💯
Worst part about all of this is we gave up on SGA who was 11th pick and showed that he was a star in the making. We gave up on him but watch them rally behind Wagler when this guy has not really shown much of anything. His defense is questionable, his shooting which was his one calling card is looking bad. He's not a great play maker, he lacks confidence, he's not very athletic, kind of slow and he makes it look hard to score. But they will rally behind this guy smh. This team definitely makes some goofy decisions. This dude will be nowhere near as good as SGA.
Baba and Yanic both are versatile bigs on defense! Dominant potential!
Carr scored most of his points directly on Wagner whereas Wagner only had what six points until garbage time in the 4th where he only scored on the third string summer league team??
Keaton hasn’t had one good game
Mikel brown jr was the right choice 😫😭
Our coaching sucks. Everyone is playing like they have something to prove except our guys. Wagler can’t get a shot off when under the basket and it appears he is the last one up the floor. If I remember correctly against the Jazz he didn’t score in the 4th and then against the Lakers he didn’t score in the 1st. Maybe he did in the 2nd. Idk.
