UPDATE: Could Detroit Pistons and Jalen Duren STRIKE an UNUSUAL Short-Term Deal SOON?

Detroit Pistons edge closer to locking in Jalen Duren with a unique contract extension, reshaping their offseason priorities. Major insiders debunk trade rumors, while negotiations hint at a potential three-year deal that could set a new standard for rookie extensions. As the Pistons pivot away from traditional long-term contracts, is this the compromise that keeps Duren in Detroit and maintains roster flexibility?

The conversation focused on why the Pistons traded Isaiah Stewart, highlighting behind-the-scenes locker room tensions and the franchise’s belief that Paul Reed is a better fit at a lower cost. Key themes include Ausar Thompson’s contract extension progress, recent missed opportunities on star trades due to sky-high asking prices, and the front office’s resistance to desperation moves to build a sustainable contender. Can Detroit’s patient strategy deliver postseason results, or will pressure force their hand before next season’s trade deadline?

  1. Cade will be an UFA in 4 years. Desperation isn't far away. Waiting two more years probably means trading Ausar for a bad defender who can be the 2nd option. That will not be enough because the defense will fall off a cliff, offsetting all gains on offense.

  2. We all have to thank Wemby for making this a bit easier. And the Jalen Brown trade. You cannot have 2 players making 70% of the money and then sign Ausar for another 35%. Math not mathing. I think cooler heads are starting to prevail and the Pistons are about to settle into a solid 3-5 years of contending, which makes everyone more money.

  3. Wouldn't it be better to sign Duren to say a 2 or 3 year deal and have the salaries increase based off of performance. And have the first year only guaranteed? Considering his playoff performance and his self admitted lack of effort during past seasons.

  4. Good episode. I understand your POV that the Pistons don’t have to make a move out of desperation due to the ages of the “core”. But at the same time that can lead to complacency and not understanding that you don’t control how long your window of opportunity lasts

  5. The pistons had there chance to win a championship now there team is gonna suck azz. Teams figured out that Cade Duren tandem. You stop Duren you stop the pistons. Period

  6. Minnesota went out and got ball other teams made huge trades.. why can't we ever at this point get fleeced we need player's next to Cade now not later forget picks
