I think Mavs will be a sneaky good team this year
The Mav’s must play their rookies and younger players heavy, heavy minutes to develop them unless they show they’re just not ready. Even Coop struggled early last season mostly because he was asked to play a new position at point guard.
Mavericks fan. Dallas has hit the jackpot with Cooper Flagg – a franchise player with All-NBA first team potential. The goal now is to build the team around him and improve year on year. The idea of trying to tank / lose games is done. This team (with Kyrie back) should be looking to make the play-in / win as many games as possible.

You could play flagg at the 2 then go pj, rez, lively at the 3 4 5. Kyrie could run a pick n roll with everyone on the court

PJ Washington and Gafford have six years of experience, and Naji has five. All are still approaching their prime. Kyrie is a tremendous leader. Keep them all. The West got weaker with Kawhi and LeBron heading East. I'm expecting some playoff games.

I would say look no further than to what they gave up in order to acquire Aldama, Sasser, and that shooter from Europe – it wasn’t much – and those could be 3 legitimate rotation pieces on a good team – to see that the team is finally in good hands again. I’m confident they will build out the right roster around Coop.
The biggest challenge – and ultimately most important thing – is going to be finding a legit, all-star level 2nd best player to pair with him… the last regime left the asset barrel bone dry, so I think the best thing would be for Kyrie to play great and have significant value for win-now teams near the trade deadline- maybe one who loses a key backcourt piece to injury but still needs to go all in… ideally one who has the draft rights to a first round pick of a bad team. They could end up waiting the whole year, and hope Kyrie stays healthy, to get more value in return. But Gafford, PJ, etc… should be used for the same purpose – to acquire assets that give them a chance to land that 2nd best player in the next couple years (either through a high draft pick or, more likely I’d say, a sign & trade for a player nearing the end of his rookie deal and asking to be moved, with Dallas at the top of their wish list), as Coop becomes the 1st team all-nba level player we know he’s going to be. It’s going to be fun watching him and Kyrie together while it lasts though.
