What the biggest moves in the Eastern Conference (LeBron, Brown, Kawhi, Giannis) mean for the Pacers

3. A couple thoughts Tony…
   I’ve heard you mention a few times about Ethan Thompson “years of service”. Are you POSITIVE the NBA views him as 2 years? It appears to me in their data base he has just the one year on last years 2-way with the Pacers. I know he was on a previous 2-way but he was not on the bench even for a single game that season which I thought preserved it from a year of service. I ask because couldn’t he theoretically become the 15th man on a 1 year of service minimum which would actually juuusssst keep the Pacers under the hard cap?

   Also another interesting tidbit I haven’t heard anyone discuss on any Pacers forums….
   Jay Huff makes just enough over the minimum, that if he was traded away for nothing or even a minimum contract in return…. The savings would be juuuussst enough for the Pacers to add a 15th player on a minimum. I think this is significant as I’m just not confident in Jay Huff as the full time backup 5. He won’t be a “playable” option in the playoffs. The Pacers have shown how much they like to use Obi as a 5 in the postseason. But we need a playable backup center with some toughness, defensive presence, and rebounding ability. If Zu would get banged up or in foul trouble against any of these elite playoff centers, we have to have a solid backup to atleast hold ground against them. Think of how Pacers had to use Tony Bradley to ensure rebounding in selective playoff matchups. We will be completely lacking that ability. Nick Richards is still an option in FA. Missi would still be quite the ideal trade target (although at 3.5 mil with another year of team control, it would make adding a 15th player as of now that much harder even though I would assume J Walker would be in that deal even as part of J Hawkins salary dump.) And even Diabate although expiring would be a dream fit from the Hornets with all the frontcourt depth they have added and his contract this year would be a coup as well.

4. If we stay healthy….Top 2 in the East period. Knowing the mindset of my guys….Their chopping at the bit…to put the East on notice that WE'RE BACK!
