The Cleveland Cavaliers may have to choose between Sam Merrill & Max Strus | Who should CLE keep?
The Cleveland Cavaliers could eventually face a difficult decision between two of their most valuable role players: Sam Merrill and Max Strus. Both provide elite floor spacing, toughness, and winning experience, but roster construction, salary considerations, and long-term flexibility could make it difficult to keep both. If Koby Altman is forced to choose, does Cleveland prioritize Merrill’s shooting and value contract, or Strus’ versatility, defense, and playoff experience?
The bigger question is which player is more important to the Cavaliers’ championship window. Is Merrill’s ability to change a game with his three-point shooting too valuable to lose? Or does Strus’ two-way impact and ability to guard multiple positions make him the better fit alongside Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley, and James Harden? If the Cavaliers can only keep one, who should it be—and why?

Hard choice, but Strus was at least a factor during the Playoffs. Merrill was not.
