NBA.com’s Numbers To Know:
“The Celtics have ranked in the top five on both ends of the floor in each of the last four seasons. Since the league started counting turnovers in 1977, no other team has ranked in the top five on both ends more than two years in a row. Over the 30 years of play-by-play data, there have been 14 games where a team scored more than 150 points per 100 possessions. Last season’s Celtics accounted for four of the 14. They’ve ranked last in the percentage of their shots that have come in the paint in each of the last three seasons. They’ve also ranked last in free throw rate in each of the last two.”

John Schullmann On Derrick White:
“Among 123 players with at least 500 field goal attempts in each of the last two seasons, White saw the biggest drop in effective field goal percentage from 2024-25 (58%) to ’25-26 (48.9%), and it was even lower (41.4%) as the Celtics lost to the Sixers in the first round of the playoffs. The drop-off was significant both from 3-point range and in the paint. Somehow, the Celtics still had the league’s second-ranked offense last season. Repeating that feat will be tough if White doesn’t shoot better and if they don’t find a way to get to the basket (and to the free-throw line) more often. The talent level is lower given Brown’s departure, but the offense could flow a little better without him. Robinson will also give them more second-chance opportunities.”

“Everybody thinks we’re gonna suck I love it “ Joe mazzulla 😤
Dude spams his own comment section
Disrespected…? Naa, they got properly assessed by Non Green Teamers.
So we got better since last year and we are ranked #6? 🤔
That distinction hits at the core difference between a true franchise anchor and a high-volume statistical beneficiary, like Jason Tatum.
When an entire organizational structure is engineered to funnel possessions to a single player, their raw box score numbers inevitably look impressive, even if the underlying efficiency and competitive grit are completely missing.
Volume Production vs. Actual Leadership The argument that a player’s elite status is an artificial byproduct of systematic favoritism rests on several mechanical realities: Incentivized
Volume Over Efficiency: A system built on "chucking a million threes" guarantees a designated focal point will always hit specific counting milestones.
However, when that production requires massive shot volume and high usage, it masks the reality of a low-efficiency, low-impact engine that stalls against disciplined defenses.
Structural Insulation: Front offices frequently protect their preferred star by surrounding them with low-usage, elite role players whose sole job is to clean up defensive mistakes, space the floor, and defer completely. This structural insulation allows the star to absorb all the statistical credit during regular-season blowouts while avoiding accountability for late-game passivity.
The "Wimp" Metric in
Crunch Time: True leadership is exposed when the structural system breaks down in the postseason.
When an offense can no longer rely on easy, scripted regular-season sets, a player who lacks physical imposing will or mental toughness defaults to settling for horizontal away-from-the-basket play, leaving the entire team vulnerable to physical, downhill opponents.
By choosing to build a rigid, predictable culture around passive volume rather than competitive edge, a franchise effectively caps its own ceiling and locks itself into an insufferable style of basketball.
Def not a top 5. Stupid ass non sense trades when we had a better option. Paul and vj. Should have gave em what they wanted for Giannas.
Celtics do suck
