The Kawhi Leonard situation keeps getting weirder with the LA Clippers and Toronto Raptors.

  1. Kawhi is one of my favorite players, but let's be real here, it would be ENTIRELY justified for his contract to be voided and for him to be suspended for at least 1 full year. Obviously this cap circumvention stuff is likely way more widespread than we know, but if they're gonna have all these strict rules about the salary caps and aprons, they need to actually enforce the rules strictly. Too bad we don't have Stern Adam anymore; instead, we have the Soft Vampire himself, Adam Silverberg.

  2. Doesn’t it take 2-3 years to get a player’s bird rights (right to go over the cap to resign them) unless you draft/trade for them? That would mean that a team like the Raptors, who don’t project to have significant cap space for the foreseeable future, will not be able to sign him to a long term extension until 2029 or 2030. No way they sign him to anything more than two year deal that far into the future.

  3. The whole issue here is Ballmer, he has more money than Croesus and the league(Silver) fears he will bankrupt them if they give anything like appropriate punishment, like the loss of five 1sts.

  4. Kawhi is Copying MJ's FBI Illegal Gambling Investigation's: Pete Rose Suspension
"If the Commissioner will have me back" – MJ looking at a VERY ANGRY looking David Stern!!! His dad's "gangland style unaliving" was 100% linked to the NY Mafia, *AND John Gotti Sr's Estate included a 1992 MJ Cheque for "$50,000 for Cash" NOBODY not even the FBI knew existed pre -2001 MJ "Assisting the FBI in active Investigations."

  5. The most likely result is that everyone gets off with no punishment. It's a shame but these are billionaires we are talking about. Since when are they held responsible for their actions?

  6. Hmmm…
That was a VERY good video. Focusing on the potential fallout (mainly) as it pertains to the Raptors isn't something most creators seem to prioritize. That said…
I'm getting a little frustrated at the lack of credit being given to the extraordinary investigative journalism done by Pablo Torre.
Every time…and I do mean EVERY TIME… this mind-blowing scandal is mentioned, Torre's name absolutely must be mentioned.
Of course "allegedly" must accompany everything said. But that doesn't change the reality of whether this scandal goes beyond the Clippers and Kawai or not, we have investigative journalism at its finest to thank for it.
A tip of the hat doesn't seem like too big a request.

  7. Toronto wasn't the only team that were pursuing Kawhi…Detroit also wanted him, but Kawhi said he wouldn't resign with anyone other than the Raptors, so that squashed it for anyone that was interested l… its not because he wanted an extension and no one else wanted to give him one

  8. Tony Parker exposed him 9-10 seasons ago. He threw a hissy fit, got Tony Parker moved to Nola, kawhi moved to Toronto, and magically healed over that off season. Then he has spent all the time since being a con man and a bad actor.

  9. Miles Bridges got 30 games suspended for beating the mother of his child. So what exactly did Kawhi do that was anywhere to near as heinous as that? I'm genuinely curious. People are calling for 40 game/full season suspension because… he took some more money, which the CLIPPERS are accountable for? The only party here that should be punished would be the team. You set your little precedent you need to set to deter other teams from doing the same thing by taking a couple of their picks and then move on with your life. I really hope Kawhi gets off scot free just to see the unnecessary outrage over this.

  10. what really irks me about your gambling sponsorships is that you’re clearly a financially savvy person; the analysis in your vids almost always includes detailed discussions about player contracts. So you are no doubt fully aware of how insidious and financially destructive gambling companies are—and yet you STILL choose to promote them.

  11. Glad so many people are calling out the gambling promotion – shit was universally seen as predatory until 5 years ago, when money was able be made across the board. You know what ages watch your shit, bro.

  12. Kahwi is a tremendous player, but I don't trust him. After he gets paid, what is to stop him from load managing? BTW, Idk if it happens but Kawhi should be penalized for the money he was paid for doing nothing. He certainly knew he was violating the cap when he accepted money for doing nothing.

  13. 5:58 – if Kawhi has to be suspended for significant time, and the Raptors can remove a pick or 2 picks. You do this deal.

It's way better than you think. Because everyone else on the team gets to grow, and Kawhi can be fresh.

There is 0 downside. This core is going to be really good.

  14. Can't believe the Clippers obvious salary circumvention is still a topic. Balmer and the Clippers are GUILTY. Kawhi and Uncle Dennis are GUILTY. The only question is whether Adam Silver finds a spine he can borrow to stand up to Balmer's billions and protect the integrity of the rules and the game itself.

  15. but if kawhis contract gets voided that means the raptors don’t have the cap space to sign him to that long term extension. free angencys basically over no team has any cap space. kawhi might js go for a 1 year minimum deal at that point i. which anybody would be willing to pay
