What is your reaction to the Brooklyn Nets and Michael Porter Jr.'s lack of an extension? What do you think will happen?
It's not blasphemy to pay him $40MM annually that's non-ascending. These are ideal offers that I feel MPJ and his agent would POSSIBLY consider.
OFFER #1: Just add another year at $40MM annually that would have him scheduled to expire after the 2027-2028 season. Essentially a "kick the can" option.
OFFER #2: $160MM over the next four years.
2026-2027: $40MM
2027-2028: $40MM
2028-2029: $40MM (team option)
2029-2030: $40MM (player option)
OFFER #3: $165MM over 5 years (descending).
2026-2027: $40MM
2027-2028: $35MM
2028-2029: $30MM
2029-2030: $30MM
2030-2031: $30MM (player option)
If you cant get back either 2 first round picks, 1 really high quality first round pick, or a player that actually adds value to the franchise, then u let MPJ play this year out and try to sign him in free agency if thats what the best move for the team seems to be.
We have the most money to spend, every former champion is dropping their 3rd-5th options to duck the aprons, everyone agrees mpj is not worth anything more than what hes making right now in the current NBA landscape but call me crazy that i would be shocked if any team actually shows up at free agency with anywhere close to a 50m$ bag for MPJ besides us.
We either find a trade partner that works or we let it rock for the season and let him take some pressure off the kids again. If the kids seem ready to go into next year by themselves then we can let him walk and have even more money to spend, or if they seem like they arent ready then we throw a bag at him that he cant refuse. Were legit playing agaisnt ourselves for him. Why would we just fold before the game starts
There was never a deadline because the extension was 0% ever going to happen at the price MPJ wants.
You guys were so willing to gamble all of last season and the future of all 5 rookies and any other player we have on the roster's development on a 14% chance at something. Now were walking into free agency as the only team with money but losing MPJ would be just too big of a gamble for you. The logic is baffling me.
