9. He wasn't convinced he would get drafted. He drew almost no interest from NBA teams, but he was lucky enough that the Jazz decided to take a chance on him. And ultimately, he became one of the best point guards in history—arguably the greatest playmaker of all.
   Just think about this: How many other guys who went undrafted—who never got their shot in the NBA, or perhaps even quit basketball after college—could have had Hall of Fame-worthy careers if only an NBA team had believed in them ?

13. I remember when Utah drafted Stockton. I had never heard of him nor had I ever heard of Gonzaga, although I grew up in Oregon. I thought Frank Layton had made the biggest mistake in NBA history—boy was I ever wrong!!!

16. After Stockton was drafted, he wasn't certain whether he would remain on the Utah Jazz–or in the NBA–for long. After arriving in Salt Lake City, his lone significant purchase was a television set, primarily to watch the Super Bowl. By the end of his Hall of Fame career, in response to owner Larry Miller's complement that Stockton did not change a thing in his game, Stockton joked that he didn't even change (the length of) his shorts.
