Do you think the Nets should prioritize youth and development or winning at all costs this season? What do you think they will do?
This year we have to prioritize WINNING GAMES AND LEARNING HOW TO WIN GAMES IN THE NBA. So the roster and rotations (at least until about March) need to be built to be optimal for WINNING THE GAME – whoever that combination of players may be. Not just because you want to make the play-in and because you dont own your pick this year, but because you want EVERYONE on the team to UNDERSTAND THEIR ROLE AND THEIR PURPOSE ON THE ROSTER WHEN WE ARE ACTUALLY TRYING TO WIN. Not when we put them out there by themselves for "development" and ask them to do anything and everything we normally wouldn't ask them to do when running actual competitve rotations.
Right now we have about 2/3 of our roster that has no idea what role and identity they have on this team; and over half of those particular players really dont even know if they have an identity in the NBA whatsoever.
It does us no good to award minutes to players who dont deserve it. They will never understand their mistakes if there is never any decision made based off of performance and we only decide these things off of players personal circumstances. If we just let them fail into success, and force others more qualified players to suffer because of those circumstances, that isnt what winning organizations in the NBA ever do.
Once March comes around and you have effectively conveyed to the players that minutes are not awarded, and you have confidence that they are fully focused on what they need to be improving in order to have a role when we are trying to win, then you can start giving them extra minutes so they can form THAT ROLE.
Iām excited about this year. I donāt think weāll win more than 32-34 games but I think weāll start putting the bones together of our core.
It's very simple. This is the big leagues. It's either fish or cut bait . The Nets are an NBA franchise. They exist to win games . Period. If the young players aren't ready , then send them down to the G league. The guys who don't cut it , they don't. This is the tough part of going from college where you only play a small schedule. The Nets need professional players who are ready to bang. If the young players don't have the skills or strength, go to the G league.
Putting off signing seasoned professionals has been hurting the Nets in winning games. Time to shift gears and see who is ready to play, and who isn't. I like many of these young guys , but I want to win too ! Choices have to be made , no getting away from this . Let's see how Sean handles this. NBA players need SKILLS, not potential to win . C'est la vie !
Iām actually glad that Eric brought up the DLO era Nets because we actually saw the blueprint and how it works, and if we look at that plan, we can see that we are not going to hit that blueprint. Not in two years like Eric keeps saying.
The Dinwiddie and Russell and Allen Nets made the playoffs. Making the playoffs was a critical factor in Kyrie and KD coming to the nets. It wasnāt just about vibes.
This is why I keep harping on the fact that marks is so casually throwing away a potential play in year where he had the opportunity to go get enough veterans to fill in the margins on this team to get them closer to a playoff team for this season. But instead he didnāt do that all so Danny Wolf, Drake Powell, and Ben Saraf can show whether they can be end of the rotation players? Nobody actually believe these guys have star potential or even starter potential. The Nets are sacrificing the season inorder to evaluate whether Drake Powell, Danny Wolf, and Ben Saraf can be serviceable role players. Itās just so funny when you write down. But thatās the plan.
So then once youāve completely thrown away the season to find out whether these guys can be role players now Markās will tell us in 2027 now itās time to try to make the playIn but no star going to want to sign with the nets after this season.
So now weāre into 2027. The Nets have not extended MPJ so thereās a good chance heās gonna be treated at the deadline and in 2027 Randall, their second best player heās up for an extension which they probably wonāt want to give him either so what Star player in 2027 off-season is gonna wanna come to the nets?
Finally, letās talk about the 2027 free agency class go look at it. There are not guys who are gonna be coming out in free agency in 2027 who are Starr Level players that you would want to give $60 million a year or two. Unless youāre thinking you wanna bring an aging injury prone Anthony Davis. Or how about a 3738-year-old Steph Curry? Remember Eric told us that Giannis and Jalen Brown were too old. There arenāt 20 six-year-old free agent stars hitting the market. And if you think Anthony Edwards would wanna come to the Nets, my question is why? They have not one playoff birth to show for this.
Again, let me reiterate Markās plan for this upcoming season. The plan is to not give Jordy all the tools he needs to be a playoff team for this upcoming season so that the team can evaluate whether three or four players on the roster that they just drafted can be role players. Role players role players. All while having another three draft picks to make in 2027 and a whole host of other draft picks in the following years. The nets could literally replace Ben Sara, Drake Powell and Danny Wolf in the next draft. These arenāt starting Level talents their guys hope to develop into role players at the end of the bench and weāre throwing away the playoffs for them.
That would be like The Nets in the DLO era deciding letās forgo the playoffs. We arenāt going to bring in Damarre Carroll and Ex Davis and Napier all guys that help them be good enough instead we arenāt going to use these minutes to play Drazen Musa instead.
Iām telling you all Sean Mark cares about is getting another contract extension for himself. Just keep pushing the goal post back.
FIRE SEAN MARKS!!
Of course 2 of the fan questions are fans that want to figure out ways we can lose on purpose more this year again. Funny how this entire fanbase just thinks all success starts with choosing to lose at all costs. This time not even ti give us better odds but just to give another team worse odds…. why dont we just play every season and only focus on lottery odds.
Youth development because it's simply the last evaluation yr. Next yr we need to ADD real pieces. No more waiting and seeing. Not gunna win much even if we Max out but truthfully… randle and mpj are here JUST to see if mbj and Igor can be real ballers while playing next to solid players instead of g league ones. Best case scenario is that we become something like that D-lo teamšš½ respectability šÆ
Lol, it couldn't matter less what the Nets do this year š
