Giannis hasn't won a playoff series in 4 years, and can't stay healthy. This feels like a lifetime achievement award.
Putting Giannis over JB is wild work. He played like 4 games last year
Uncle Dennis has to be top five by proxy.
One trick pony offensively. His game completely lacks versatility and is almost impossible to build around. Ranking him above Jalen Brunson is an insult to basketball.
Mail bag: I hear you mentioned that you believe Steph Curry is a slightly better offensive player than LeBron, but LeBron just does so many other things on the court. I assume you mean defensively. That makes me wonder: if you had to put a percentage on it, when we're talking about the greatness of an individual player, what percentage would you say offense matters more than defense? I think offense matters much more in the context of a player's impact because it's much easier to construct a team defense around it an incredibly offensively talented player, than it is to do the opposite. But I'm curious what your percentage would be. I would say when measuring a player's impact, offense is about 70 or maybe even 80 percent of what I judge them on. Although, this gets incredibly complicated when looking at a generational defensive talent, ala someone like Wemby, or looking at someone who is such a negative to their team defensively like Luka. Thoughts on this? Thanks for being a sensible voice in NBA media, hope you get bigger and bigger in the years to come.
The 5th best player in basketball got traded for spare parts and two 1st round picks.
Tatum is the 9th ranked player due to his injury (in your words he'd be closer to 6th otherwise), but a guy who only played 20 more games than him last yr and hasn't won a playoff series since 2022 in a weak conference is the 5th best player in basketball?
This will just be a battle between health in recent times and defence. Depending on how you value these things Giannis can be the best player in the nba or the 5th best player. Of all the top 10 players he is by far the 2th best defender (guess Tatum is the 3th) but he also has been the most unhealthy especially during the play-offs.
Giannis is so UNDERRATED I pray you don’t put Jokic 1st place
no way people think brunson is better than anyone in the top 5 man😭
Your wrong dude because dude is always heart and never advances in the playoffs thumbs down
Sorry, but that means Luka is above him in the rankings. LakerVision at its finest. 😅
One of my favorite players in the league. Plays hard every night. If he's healthy we will perform and there's nothing you can do about it. Still kind of saddens me that him and Brunson never played together, not even in an Allstar game.
Wow! Everyone is super polarized about this rank! Either you think he shouldn’t be above Brunson, or you think he should be in the top 3! Jason, I think this points to the need for a range. If Giannis is healthy, he is an absolute monster! Most would only consider Wemby and Joker on his tier. When he is unhealthy, it’s clear there is a long list of guys you would rather have, perhaps a tier 3 player. So range 1-3
Jason love for Luka needs to be studied. The glaze is out of control at this point. Lakers won't even make the western simi conference finals and you know it.
Again, it’s a matter of philosophy.
If he’s healthy and plays 36 minutes a game, I have no problem with him being ahead of Brunson.
However- he didn’t. And he’s got a career full of injuries and lack of availability at key times.
I don’t know that you can take somebody and rank them high by saying “when they are healthy, x” when in fact, that’s a hypothetical.
Try top 20 player, always injured, jump shot gone, don’t play defense anymore. Turns the ball over too much as point Giannis. Flops, taunts – instead of getting back on defense.
GA when healthy is top 3 I'm sorry at worst 4th ,if he gets a solid jumper he is top 2.i cant wait for him to have an MVP season
Bucks were not even good with Dame
Sorry, but Giannis in his games last year was still better than Luka. His impact metrics clears. T4 guys are VicJok/Shai/Giannis in whatever order u prefer
MAILBAG: Do you genuinely think giannis isnt the best player itl, from a standpoint that he performs unlike shai dropping in the offs yearly, cant hit jumpers at the same rate, struggling when kitchen sink is thrown at him, to the point he was outplayed by 41 year old lebron for 3 games with the help of the nasty refs also. Then jokic having bad playoff moments past 2 years, dropping vs okc, playoff offense impact not on regular season level and locked by gobert and losing to 3rd string twolves. Last time we saw him was 33 15 6 vs a game 7 finals team just LAST YEAR. Luka has done nothing but regular season hoops since then. Now wemby is still developing we will see but everybody else we know who they are by now why do they get benefit of the doubt when in the offs giannis performs best, his team is good so defense will be back and he only missed his first regular season this year?
