$5M is a little pricey for a 2nd round pick… about 2x the average cost plus $5M in dead money is not the same as $5M cash out of the owners pocket.
I completely agree with the favor to Carter narrative.
And whatever trade to take Carter would probably cost the Hawks more today, than the Sacramento pick that pocketed in July.
What Carter's trade did was spend some of the money Kuminga was looking for… and saved the Hawks from dealing with Aaron Turner who disregarded their roster.
The best thing about Brad is there is always quality, in-depth analysis. Honestly, no exaggeration, he’s one of the best NBA analysts anywhere. I really believe that. Who on ESPN or any other network is better?
The value of paying $5M for a 2nd rounder would be pretty shit from most teams, but a 2nd rounder from Sac could be the 31st pick so…
Carter is the kind of guy that some nba team should invest in… like either on a multi-year minimum contract (like Mo Gueye) or on a string of two way deals. He needs 25-30 minutes a night in the g-league plus year round shooting practice. He's a good guy, and I hope he gets that chance.
