Why Sactown Sports & the Kings Are Ending Their 32-Year Radio Partnership

After 32 years, Sactown Sports will no longer serve as the radio home of the Sacramento Kings.

Dave and Jason explain what changes, what stays the same, and why Jason will continue as part of the Kings broadcast team even as the games move to the team’s own platforms. They also reflect on three decades of partnership, what the shift means for Sactown Sports going forward, and why the station’s Kings coverage isn’t going anywhere.

  1. So Jason Ross will continue to not say anything negative about the Kings or Vivek and talk about them like they are a good franchise. Hopefully 1140 stops talking about them 12 hours a day, 52 weeks a year. It's like talking about the Tennessee Titan all day every day.

  2. It is terrestrial radio losing footprint. You don't see it as much in sports radio because that is the main surviving genre helping radio limp along. I'm sad to see radio going to be honest. It is becoming a non-profit space.

  3. I live in San Jose and listen to KHTK for my morning commute and Kings road games on my way home. I pay for League Pass to watch Kings games. I am not not adding another &#$%ing app to my phone and I am not adding Sirius XM. I want less intrusive BS on my phone and in my digital life. Not more. I get that radio is not the media platform it used to be. But my decision is to just exit from adding more digital media BS. Not to embrace it.
