DFS has a bigger chance in making an impact over a guy that essentially played garbage time last year and a prototypical backup PG. The bigger expiring contract is nice but you can never have enough defensive minded forwards.

I was looking forward to nembhard backing up Kingston in a year or two. Its a solid trade, but idk if DFS is even worth nembhard. Theres a reason why his playing time was down last year
Considering DFS 's contract is a bit BIGGER, Hawks will have a bit more SALARY CAP in the summer of 2027.
Hawks will have nearly $118 million in salary after the season (without further trades). The expected cap in 2027 may be $176 million.
That would give Atlanta nearly $58 million under the cap to pursue guys like NIKOLA JOKIC next summer….
