I wouldn't call it a terrible gamble, if the pick hits 1-4 or 6+, they either get to keep the pick and get one of the great players at the top of the draft, or it's low enough they don't really care about losing it. Even with it hitting like literally the only spot that makes it hurt, Zubac is still exactly what the team needs and will probably be better for them in the short term than who they could have got at 5. It's only a terrible gamble because it failed, if they got zubac and then one of the top 3 because of this deal everybody would be praising them.

9. I agree Nick, Zubac and Oubre are solid pickups. However on the Wemby thing, trust me. NBA threads was flooded with Knicks fans talking shit about Wemby 😂 it's real alright. They're Knicks fans, they're rabid about their team, especially now😂

10. It’s good that somebody didn’t forget how good the Pacers were less than 18 months ago. Also I just don’t think the Zubac trade was that awful. They ended up getting the 5th pick, which they were going to trade anyways (5-9 was all PG’s. The top 4 was already locked in). So if you can imagine a scenario where they still get the 5th pick, and still find themselves with no quality center, that would’ve been a really bad situation to be in for a competing team. Now they could’ve perhaps traded for another good center then, but who? Walker Kessler or someone like that? But Zubac is just straight up better than someone like that, and on a fantastic contract for now. So while yes, the gamble still backfired, the only real punch they actually took was the future draft capital. Caleb Wilson was not to be a Pacer either way since they landed at 5. I respect the gamble still.

11. It was the 5th Pick! They had no chance at Caleb Wilson or any of the Top 4 unless one of those teams were willing to trade down. The 5th pick was a point guard and all guards and none were going to play over Hali or Nembhard or TJ. The Walker Kessler S&T should give credibility to the Zubac trade, Zu is an under 20 mil dollar center for multiple years.

13. Thanks for the coverage. Disagree about the trade. Did you see how expensive good centers were this summer? Sucks that we dropped in the lottery, but we were missing a starter and snagged a decent upgrade for our window. If we had kept the 5th pick, who do you think we would have gotten at center instead?
