The Day Steph Changed the Rules

Before the MVPs, before the four championships, there was this night at the Garden.
In this episode of “Anatomy of the Game,” Ben Taylor of Thinking Basketball revisits Steph Curry’s 54-point eruption against the Knicks in February 2013—a glimpse of the superstar who would change how basketball is played and defended.

Ben breaks down how Curry punished New York’s drop coverage and the space defenders gave him beyond the arc, revealing why defensive approaches that once seemed reasonable at the time would soon become impossible to use going forward.

Call me crazy but I think steph curry had a bigger impact than michael jordan on the way the game is played. Teams weren't revolutionizing and completely transforming their offenses in MJ's time. It was still a center dominated league

  2. curry went from 7.9 3PA in 2013-14 in Jackson's last year to….8.1 in Kerr's first year, why is ben acting like Kerr all of sudden discovered the secret of 3 point shooting when he took over lmao.

  3. I love these videos, and I think LeBron's Game 7 against Boston in 2008 (and even the way they defended him, which was also brilliant) would make for a great topic

  4. It can't be said enough how violently allergic coaches were to Curry's style of play. At every level from Peewees to Pros, taking a 3 point shot in transition was an automatic benching or at least a glare from the coach.
