Giannis talking about skill: “It takes more than skills to be great. That’s what people don’t understand. You can be the most skilled person on earth & still don’t make the NBA. The NBA is not about skills.”

Giannis admits he just runs and dunks

  2. Bigbadbuck

Yeah when you’re 7 foot with a 7’6 wingspan sure you don’t need nearly as much skill. Not sure what the hell giannis is tryna say here lmao

  3. WorldWideWes2

Basically saying hard work beats talent when talent don’t work hard

  4. analfizzzure

I can appreciate his message here. Its about heart…..and yes bring 7ft with giant wings helps…..but without that heart he could just be stocking the top shelfs at publix

  5. Jegagne88

If I was magically given Giannis’s body I would be in the NBA. So true, don’t need much skill

  6. onliwenimtrunk

Do people think it’s skills or is it not skills?

  7. disconnectedmadafaka

It’s not about skills. It’s about being an explosive/athletic 7 footer that can out run and out jump everybody on the court lol

  8. everything_raptors

The skills and physical ability gets you to the nba.. your drive to continuously get better and the hunger is what keeps you in the league and the combination of both is what makes you to potentially be an all time great

  9. Rupert--Pupkin

How’s he gonna say it’s not about skills and then go on to name all the most skilled players in the league lol

  10. HolyRomanPrince

Shaq is just bigger and stronger

Lebron is just bigger and stronger

Wilt is just bigger and stronger.

Heard it for years. Nobody that actually hoops cares because you have to put in the work to make God’s gifts work. Giannis put the work in the weight room and court and he’s the best player in the league.

  11. lolwarlord

Love hearing these sorts of insights from players

  12. Wazflame

Giannis can use this as a voiceover for a Nike commercial

  13. uber_troll

Shoutout to all my skilled basketball players over seas. Guess they’re not obsessed with basketball enough.

  14. Vatfagyna

Idk he’s kinda discrediting some of the other players. Maybe he doesn’t mean to but he kinda is. Lebron, Steph, kd,Kobe, mj, are all the players that they are bc of determination/putting in that work. I mean, you could argue that these dudes are more skilled than he is bc of their determination. His edge over them (i don’t think there is one) comes from the fact that he’s insanely athletic

  15. richard_golbes

Yeah, thankfully Giannis was born with absolutely elite mental fortitude, work-ethic, confidence, and a chess-master’s mind for the game.

  16. Prodigy195

Giannis basically with the Rock Lee mentality.

    > So I was not born with a whole lot of natural talent, not gifted like ~~Neji~~ Lebron/Steph/KD but I work hard and I never give up! That is my gift, that is my ~~ninja~~ hooper way!”

  17. CannabisPrime2

He’s right. Look at Vince Carter, that man had all the skills, but none of the drive to be great.

  18. QuietlyVicious

I mean isn’t this obvious? The league average height is like 6’7 which is higher than 99.99% of males according to a quick Google search

Obviously size isn’t the only thing that matters, but the league average being so above the average man’s height clearly indicates size plays a huge role

  19. Bobaximus

Almost like the most important attribute for an athlete is athleticism.

  20. NoahJayhawk

It’s about drive, it’s about power. Staying humble yet devouring

  21. Rockets101

Great I have no skills. My NBA dream is alive

  22. t1mmy-duncan-GOAT

Giannis still taking shots at harden. im here for it

  23. ShotTaker

That’s what people don’t understand. The NBA is not all about skills. It’s about having fake charisma to get away with charges and constant elbows to the opposition. And when all else fails, you undercut Kyrie. Remember there’s no such thing as a dirty player, only a reckless player. And nobody can fault you for being reckless.

  24. imsurethisoneistaken

It’s about both. Skills and being an athletic freak. You need both and you also need height.

  25. If you want to watch skills watch Euroleague. Simple as that. Every one who has watched and played says this.

NBA is about how athletic and tall you are. That’s it. Now if you’re very tall, and fast, and can hit a jump shot 40% of the time, then you’re great.

  26. Hand_Banana_0082

I mean do you think Shaq got rich playing in Orlando?!

  27. ToneDowneyAve

He spoke nothing but facts. You Dan have all the skill in the world but zero work ethic. You’ll be stocking shelves at Walmart. You ain’t just making the league off skill alone.

  28. -Heis3nberg-

I remember going to college (D1 sec school) and playing pick up / intramural basketball every day during my freshman and sophomore years. I got pretty good and was able (more like allowed lol) to play on court 1, which was usually guys full of guys who transferred from d2-d3 schools after realizing they probably weren’t gonna make it professionally.

While their skills were definitely better, it was crazy when you realize it’s kind of the same game but just played at a faster pace and taller height.

Like, I know it’s common sense, but to actually be on the court and realize it, was pretty jarring. With that being said, their skills were way better than most but they were in no way a level that was unattainable without God-given ability

  29. CohenMetsBurner

Lol such bitter ass fans of the 29 other teams here upset about Giannis making an extremely logical point. We get it, he didn’t chose you and now you want to prove you never wanted him to begin with by claiming he’s only good because he’s 7 feet.

  30. tendy-hands

Look at “not skillful” Giannis and “most skilled player ever” Kyrie and let me know which one literally every team in the nba would rather have.

  31. maliciousmonkee

He’s right, the NBA is not just about skills. Think about all the scrub 7 footers who got their chance in the league because of their size, and all the 6’4″ players who are ridiculously skilled but will never make it.

  32. whiteyspidey

10% luck 20% skill 15% concentrated power of will

  33. AnotsuKagehisa

Skills, physical tools, IQ….probably health too

  34. guffzillar

he forgot to mention the part about being a genetic freak athlete

  35. l3oobear

Damn Bucks fans really got a generational player. Hope he is your Kobe/Timmy D icon.

  36. SonnyBennett

I guess his comments about the drive and discipline went over many of y’all’s heads. No wonder, those are the things nephews know nothing about

  37. flip_ericson

    >its not about skill
    >lists some of the most skilled players of all time

I know giannis is reddits media darling rn but how are this many people going to pretend this makes any sense at all lmaooo
