>As Raptors executives Masai Ujiri and Bobby Webster strolled between the two courts in Mandalay Bay’s Convention Center, speculation surrounded the long-term future of one of Toronto’s rotation players.
>According to numerous NBA executives who spoke with HoopsHype at the G League Showcase, the top Raptors trade candidate is unanimously Gary Trent Jr.
>The current belief from those executives is Trent Jr. will opt out of his $18.8 million player option and enter unrestricted free agency this summer. Two executives told HoopsHype they believe Trent could earn $20 million or more if he entered unrestricted free agency. There’s skepticism amongst several front offices across the league that Toronto would be willing to retain Trent Jr. if he eclipses the $20 million annual range.
>Recently, Trent Jr. was more efficient coming off the bench during a seven-game stretch where he averaged 18.3 points while shooting 49.5 percent from the field and 39.2 percent from downtown for a 117 offensive rating.
r/nba acting like nobody wants to touch Gary with a 10ft pole 😂😂
Hawks fan coming in peace, what would you guys realistically want for this guy?
I still wonder if there’s a feasible 3-team deal that sends GTJ somewhere and lands us Myles Turner, with the third team sending assets to Indiana.
Obviously my interest in this kind of deal has dropped over this losing streak and I’d rather seek assets ourselves for GTJ but if the front office is still thinking about buying (for some reason), I think finding a third team to help with that kind of deal is the best trade we could do.
I’ve brought up Dallas sending Bertans, a FRP, and a SRP to Indiana (and we send either a protected outer year first or 2 seconds to Indy also) or GSW sending Wiseman/Kuminga to Indiana (also unlikely – think GSW would prefer Turner directly than GTJ but they have been linked to GTJ this season).
EDIT: Another one I had thought about but with AD out it seems far less likely:
Toronto: Turner
Indiana: Westbrook, 2 Lakers FRP
Lakers: GTJ, Buddy Hield
If AD didn’t get hurt I think the Lakers would have been more interested in this. We could have also swung a second or something to a team if they needed it.
