The Monty Show 858! Is NIL & The Transfer Portal Killing College Football?

Monty & Jake are talking College Football Transfer Portal and NIL cash. Among others, Oregon was able to flip several top recruits to Eugene Oregon and they did it with NIL cash. Is NIL good for college football? Are teams using the NCAA Transfer Portal as a means of spending NIL money and winning games? Should teams be able to recruit with NIL money?

The PAC 12 saw Oregon at the top of the PAC 12 recruiting rankings, while Utah Football was 4th, Colorado was 5th, and USC was 10th. However all of those teams did big business in the transfer portal. So who really won the early recruiting season?

  1. Some school are playing by the rules for NIL and others are paying players to come to their schools

  2. @TheMontyShow guys this whole NIL thing is bad for the sport. I question heart and dedication of these 18-20 y/o athletes. Is a 3 star athlete recruited out of HS who has work to earn paying time a better addition to your team or a 4-5 star who has to have playing time because he has 6 or 7 figure stipend?

  3. Phil Knight is just trying to buy a championship before he's too old to enjoy it.

  4. I like it, it's a good way for players to get paid for their contribution to putting butts in the seats. It also helps kids contribute to their family's income and aren't pressured to enter the draft early due to financial reasons.

  5. It was reported that schools were contacting Mississippi State players when Mike Leach's death was announced. I think that NIL and the portal needs some kind of regulation because there isn't any regulation as of now.

  6. I think in the beginning when people thought about NIL they thought about kids making money off selling shirts and merch with their names on it and stuff, but this is out of control.

  7. Yup, now the guy delivering Pelaton could possibly have enough Dough to buy a business or buy a semi-Truck & make good living being a Class A driver. If your getting into Stanford as Athlete, they still got to be pretty smart, not like getting into Utah.

  8. Not all kids get paid, either. So if your argument is they sacrifice to play, how can you argue only select players get paid for doing the same thing.
