If you look at this year's trade deadline, the Spurs could have gotten any of those star players with the assets they have. Of coarse it would be pointless this year. KD went for four 1st and a couple of 2nds, Saddiq Bey went for a few 2nds. Hopefully we get 1st or 2nd pick this year and will be competing in a couple of years. The assets will be there to complete the roster.
Stashing picks never works, look what happen with Boston, they did it for years and it never got them anywhere. It wasn't until a few years after they finally got rid of them that they starting competing
My thoughts are that all those picks are an insurance in case we don't the 1st overall pick that being the big VW.. so I'm thinking if we don't get him maybe they will try to trade all the picks for him or just cut the loses and use them later years and keep the rebuild going… Just my thoughts
I'm glad we have all those pics .it's like have a credit card . Use those pics to trade up in the draft. if we get scout or wembi. I would take some pics and get one of those Amen or amur
Protected picks are nothing. Draft picks are worthless these days unless top 2 or 3. Going out to 10 you might pick up interesting guys. The Spurs tanking are the only worthwhile picks to talk about. Might as well call protected picks "future role player picks" (outside of the 1 or 2 gems that occur once in a while there). The Spurs "genius" draft picking probably averages out to 1 every 8-10 years. And what do we have to show for the last 10 years? I don't see the "genius".
I know Gregg Popovich is up there in age but I hope he is still coaching to make all these draft picks. Or have some role in the spurs organization if he is not coaching.
