Some more context for Wilts stint in LA as they went:
1968-69: 54-27 (made finals)
1970-71: 48-34
1971-72: 69-13 (won finals)
1972-73: 60-22 (made finals)
He focused mostly on defense & rebounding while playing for the Lakers so that’s why his scoring wasn’t as high as his early years in the league cause it didn’t really translate to winning basketball

Lebron deserves his jersey retirement. Came here when no one wanted to come, we thought it was for a vacation and the fucking guy wins us another ring, brought AD with him too. He’ll probably be my second favorite Laker ever after Kobe for what he did to revive the franchise.

Always heard the argument as he doesn’t deserve a trophy not that he shouldn’t get his jersey retired

Aint no one arguing against him getting his jersey retired. Stop getting mad at people and scenarios you made up.

Of course LeBron won’t match Kobe, Kareem and Magic for number of Lakers titles, that would be unfathomable.
He won a title as a Laker very late in his career, snapping a decade long drought. He’s by far the greatest player of his generation and a lock to be a first time Hall of Famer. Of course his jersey 23 is getting retired since he won wearing that.

Cuz Wilt wore purple and gold, not yellow and blue.

Who even said bron doesnt deserve to have his jersey retired. The moment he won in 2020. That basically sealed it.

I think a lot of this stems from a residual bitterness that in about 2007ish, when Kobe was clearly the best player in the league, there was still a national sentiment against him and this rush to anoint Lebron as the best in the league. Kobe deserved at least 2 MVPs (ahem, 2005-6) but really only got his national shine for 1, maybe 2 seasons then it was all about Lebron (even Wade).
Lots of Lakers fans held onto the Lebron vs Kobe sentiment and took it personally even tho Lebron loved Kobe. It was admirable defense of our guy, but also totally unnecessary shade towards Lebron as a result. He never came here to “replace” Kobe.
Also, Lebron has millions of trolls. If you think the Lebron posts are bad, check out any Messi or Ronaldo post, they are insane.

LeBron 110% deserves to have has jersey retired
I’d say LeBron and Wilt have roughly even legacies purely as a Laker

Count me in the minority. Neither should have a Lakers jersey retirement.
In my mind and my opinion, sort of should be like MLB does it. If they make the hall, they get to choose and undoubtedly when I hear the name Lebron James, I think of his time in Cleveland.
Ultimately doesn’t matter what I think. Jeannie already said what will happen.
