I’ve said this before, late in games refs just straight up decide there will be no fouls unless someone is damn near tackled. Down one, the conventional wisdom is to attack the rim and draw contact en route to getting a shot at the rim. But that only works if the refs actually call the game the same late as they do early. Which they never fucking do.
It’s why so many players decide to just shoot threes instead of attacking the rim even when they only need two. Because the defense can literally foul late in games and there’s nothing you can do if they don’t call it. With a three at least you got a chance.
