Chauncey Billups Postgame Interview | Portland Trail Blazers 106, Atlanta Hawks 120

Did a great job of sharing the ball especially in that first half I believe it was 19 or 20 assists at the break overall what did you think about the performance from the guys tonight I thought it was really good I thought it was really good um you mentioned it I

Thought the ball movement was was was awesome you know 20 assists at to half but even finishing with 35 um was big you know we shot it well from two we shot it well from three um you know we we wanted to make sure um um they’re the

Best offensive rebounding team in the league so we wanted to make sure we do a good job we did a good job on that you know Clint capella got seven on us in our last game a couple weeks ago he got one today so many so many good things we did

Obviously the big thing is you know just the turnovers turnovers um and those things are uh you know as a coach especially with playing so many young guys it’s almost not much you can do about it you know um until they just keep playing and keep seeing what’s going on and what’s

Happening how teams are playing us um it’s just one of those things you got to live through um but you can’t it’s tough to win that way you know you we didn’t shoot it that well you know when we would have a chance to win in a game like that

So that’s that’s a helpless kind of situation uh for us you know right now me as as a coach you know you know but I thought we played really well though I really do I know you’ve been wanting the team to play faster and that’s something that you focused on yesterday at

Practice getting out in transition did you see a little bit more of that tonight I thought we did I thought we did a good job of playing faster you know and that’s also a thing like you play fast sometimes you’re going to turn it over those things kind of go together

You know especially when you don’t have experience out there um so uh that’s what I’m asking for you know so this is also what I got to deal with you know as far as the turnovers if we try to play faster um but yeah yeah I thought we did a good

Job of really paying attention to the things that we wanted to focus on in the game you know so I was happy with that it’s kind of weird to say but you know after three games you’ve basically had the same rotation for three games which in this season is pretty uncommon

For this team and even though you know youd rather have the guys out there like you’ve at least had some consistency in that regard are you seeing any any benefits from that even after three games not even just with the starters but with the guys who were coming in that second rot

Well you can see the guys kind of settling in a little bit you know knowing when they’re going to come in knowing what they’re asked to do what’s needed of them you know obviously Delano has another career high today um was playing incredible you know he’s coming

Off the bench and being very aggressive to score the ball we need every bucket that he gives us you know um but RS I thought rubs you know was good today again you know Ashton came in with some good minutes I thought Moses’s minutes were good so yeah yeah uh just some

Consistency right there and kind of knowing when and where for our guys with theano too it’s uh you know are you at all surprised with the success he has with the straight line drives like he gets to his right hand he goes to the rim and like he his ability to finish

There I mean he had the multiple dunks but even like finishing kind of Round Guys it seems like he’s got a a real knack for that he does have a knack for it but it’s all set up because he he can dribble you know he got a nice handle so

He does a really good job of using his hand to get a guy to shift a little and as soon as they shift he don’t he don’t like go east and west he’s straight straight downhill on him and he’s so tall and he’s so rangy that about the

Time they figur it out he’s already laying it at the basket so um it’s all set up because his handle is is is really good for our size uh we’ve talked a little bit about tman particularly offensively as of late came in I think hit his first five shots um what did you

See out of two tonight yeah two has just been playing playing better man he’s been playing so good you know um obviously he made a ton of shots early um but I think his shot selection is is getting so much better you know we talk about our shot Spectrum a lot you know

It’s one thing that I try to uh just harp on with our young guys you know uh the kind of shots that we want to take and two is is he’s really doing a really good job with that um attacking I think his playmaking is getting better when he

Does put it on the ground you know so been very happy with uh with tw’s uh with him starting to continue to progress last one coach obviously scoo got to come back home um for this game obviously not the result he wanted but um what do you think it meant to him to

Be able to come back and play in front of his family and also how have you kind of seen him grow not only as a player but as a person since he was drafted by you guys um well I know this was this was a special day for him I’m and I know

For sure from the day that he got drafted he circled this game on the schedule uh unfortunately we only come here once you know so he’s been looking forward to this day I’m sure his family’s been looking forward to this day um and so much so I just remember

This moment you know um and schoot you know he he was he was kind of pressing out there he had five turnovers at the half and there was nothing that I could say to him you know um other than just trying to get him to calm down but I

Know I probably have five turns after the half when I went home and played for the first time I want to play so well so I know what this moment felt like like for him um and of course we all wish that you know it would go great and we

Would win and have a career high you know but it doesn’t always work like that but as far as his maturity and his game and everything he’s getting so much better you know um he really is he’s already a mature kid uh in my opinion he’s young you know but he’s mature for

His age um he’s kind of like got an old soul if you will um in my opinion and as far as his game is going you know he’s like like a regular 20-year-old rookie you know he’s up he’s down but he stays even killed the whole time
